BMW North America is currently holding an online press conference for the debut of the new US spec diesel line-up. So far weve learned the following:

Pricing (which weve already posted about) is set at $43,900 (not including destination) for the base 335d, $2475 premium over the 335i with Steptronic or $3800 over a manual car. Likewise the X5 xDrive35d will also see the MSRP increase but to $51,200 (not including destination), a $4100 bump.

BMW looked at the D models as just one of the many ways Efficient Dynamics will show up in the US.

The US Spec engines have quite a few additions to make the engines quieter

Suspension and DSC has been tuned for each of the D models.

BMW will look at sales of each model and potentially look at bringing … CONTINUED

yesterday a bunch of texas e90post members got together in austin for a meet and drive through the texas hill country. i think i can safely say that we all had a blast and the roads were awesome. there were plenty of e9x m3s, some e46s, e60 m5s, an e39 5, and, our fearless leader for most of the time/keeping us honest, an e30 m3. personally, i logged over 600 miles for the trip and spent the better part of 12 hours in my car…and that was just on saturday. please note, im not a very good photographer. anyway, here are the pics…

gathering at circuit city

getting on the road, waiting for everyone to catch up

pit stop for a fill up and bathroom break

nothing but open highways in mexico

After 7 controversial years, iDrive is now in its second iteration. The system, which is already on the road in the new 7-Series and updated in the 3-Series and 1-Series, will be forthcoming across the entire BMW lineup. BMW is proud of this very fact; that the same system powers all the vehicles in its lineup offering a level of cohesiveness in the brand which is unmatched at this time. To date, there are over 2 million cars sold using the iDrive system.

The new system began development in 2002, just one year after the launch of the original iDrive. The system went through various stages of development which included cockpit models, two concept cars, and prototype cars equipped with various iDrive elements for real world testing. Additionally four sites were … CONTINUED
