The L.A. Autoshow is not just the place to inspect new models of automotive companies. For the 9th time, it is also the place where the design teams of the top automotive companies enter a creative competition of the most exciting kind when presenting visionary concepts around the topic of individual mobility. The BMW X4 (F26) is being rumored to be debuting at the 2013 Detroit NAIAS in January. That the X4 is coming is no surprise as BMW previously officially announced its intention to build the X4. What wasn’t known however, was the timing of its debut.

The X4 is said to be coming in concept form at the NAIAS, to be followed in 2014 by the production model. The X4 will be built on the same platform as the X3 and is reportedly also the same length as the X3, at 183 inches. They will also share powerplants – a range of 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

What will be different however, will be the X4′s sportier coupe-like styling. Think of the difference between … CONTINUED

We have added our side profile renders of the 2015 BMW M4 Coupe (F82) to our set of official renders.

We started with a photo of the F82 M4 right outside of the BMW M testing center at the Nurburgring and began peeling away at the camouflage based on details which can be discerned from this particular prototype, other F82 M4 and F80 M3 mules, as well as our other imagination and speculation.

Here are some render highlights:

• Sportier and sleeker kidney grilles (as seen on previous F32 4 series coupe prototype).
• Sleeker headlights than sedan (which has been rumored and is expected).
• Similar front apron/bumper styling as the F80 M3 – with combined styling from the M6 and 1M (seen clearly in spy pics)
• Air curtain … CONTINUED

First renders of the rumored BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. Some info from BMW insider Scott26:

With the forthcoming separation of the BMW Compact segment family to accommodate each equal family such as the UKL/Next generation 1er , the current 1er and the all new 2er family are distant in looks and purpose.

The 2er maintains the ability of a RWD drivetrain and the benefits of an entry sports coupe. The renaming of the current 1er Coupe and Cabrio allows BMW to expand on the model line by resorting back to the traditions of classic entry BMW’s – Compact, focused and no limits when it comes to involving driver communication and dynamic handling. For the idea of this expanding family we have to go back to … CONTINUED

We’ve put together this latest set of renders of the 2015 M4 Coupe (F82) based on recent spy photos.

We started with a photo of the F82 M4 right outside of the BMW M testing center at the Nurburgring and began peeling away at the camouflage based on details which can be discerned from this particular prototype, other F82 M4 and F80 M3 mules, as well as our other imagination and speculation.

What you see is a sleek M4 coupe with a more fastback shape than the current M3 coupe. Here’s some render highlights:

• Sportier and sleeker kidney grilles (as seen on previous F32 4 series coupe prototype).
• Sleeker headlights than sedan (which has been rumored and is expected).
• Similar front apron/bumper styling as the F80 M3 … CONTINUED

If resident BMW insider Scott26 is correct, the upcoming 1 Series FWD BMW model lineup will be available with M Sport packages.

Although the FWD models will be front-wheel driven, BMW has sporty intentions with the lineup; something we don’t doubt judging by how well MINIs (with which the FWD 1 Series models will share the UKL platform) handle and perform. Offering M Sport packages for the FWD BMW models will serve to enhance the sportiness (in looks, and perhaps performance) of the future front wheel drive range of cars.

Here are some speculative renders by resident digital artist Harold Wood of the BMW Concept Active Tourer (CAT) FWD electric hybrid in M Sport trim.

Here is a preview illustration of the upcoming 2 Series Coupe, courtesy of our resident BMW ‘insider.’ The 2 Series Coupe will replace the current 1 Series Coupe in the BMW lineup as the entry level sports coupe. It’s expected to debut in 2013. Per Scott26:

With the forthcoming separation of the BMW Compact segment family to accommodate each equal family such as the UKL/Next generation 1 Series , the current 1 Series and the all new 2 Series family are distant in looks and purpose.

The 2 Series maintains the ability of a RWD drivetrain and the benefits of an entry sports coupe. The renaming of the current 1 Series Coupe and Cabrio allows BMW to expand on the model line by resorting back … CONTINUED
