BMW is putting huge effort in launching a revolutionary, new “three” [full technical details inside]. Before you get too excited, let’s be clear that what we are talking about is not the next generation of the quintesssential sports sedan. The “three” refers to the entry-level iteration of BMW’s new, modular engine family. In the quest to modernize its engine portfolio and achieve maximum economies of scale, Munich is launching closely related three-, four- and six-cylinder engines for diesel and gasoline applications.

Check out the results of Sport Auto’s Supertest of the Alpina B3 GT3 in which they call it “the legitimate successor of the BMW M3 CSL.”
The Alpina B3 GT3 is a limited edition model where only 99 were made. It’s based on the Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo, but 8 more HP (by re-design of sections of the exhaust and new enhanced Akrapovic rear silencer. Its N54 engine outputs 408hp / 540Nm of torque.

The latest episode of Fifth Gear saw BTCC veteran Jason Plato enlist the help of ex-F1 pilot Mika Salo to compare the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series with BMW’s M3 GTS.

Only 0.40 seconds behind the M3 GTS around the test track.
The dyno results were pretty awesome as well: 632 hp, 800Nm (590 lb-ft) torque.
