Here’s a new rumor out of The Roundel – instead of producing an F30 M3 sedan for the next generation of M3s, BMW will produce a Gran Turismo model in its place, based on the future standard 3-series GT. We’re not sure how valid this rumor is yet, however.

Autobild is reporting that a carbon fiber roof will be an available option on the upcoming 1 series M coupe, the first we have heard of this. The lack of denial by BMW insider Scott26 who chimed in on the topic makes us think this one potentially has some solid credibility.
Here is the first official sketch preview of the upcoming BMW X4. The sketch features the rear view of the X4 concept and reveals a sleek SAV with many of the design aspects already mentioned by BMW insiders.
Scott26 provides further insight on the future X4′s design language and also discusses a potential future Sport Activity Coupe based on the X1 SAV, which would mix the essence of an X and Z car, much in the way of the old X-Coupe Concept.
There are reports out today that GM is seeking to partner up with BMW to co-develop engines. This would come as no surprise as BMW publicly mentioned at the Paris Motor Show that it was discussing partnerships with multiple companies on engine production and GM has recently made no secret of its current strategy to find partners for co-development of technologies.
AMS reports that BMW’s board has decided to green-light the Vision Efficient Dynamics for production at the Leipzig plant. The BMW VED is scheduled to hit the market in 2013 using a regular combustion engine. The drivetrain concept shown at last year’s unveiling of the VED (1.5l Diesel engine + two e-motors) is said to follow later. In other news, this report also mentions that the Leipzig plant is said to produce the new entry level BMW car.
According to insider Scott26, an M version of the current second generation Z4 is inevitable. By late 2012 there will be no compact-medium car for the M division as the 1M and current M3 will both have stopped production and new versions not yet here. That is why the Z4M may be back on the drawing board.
