Autocar is claiming that the M6 will be no more when the next generation 6-series arrives. Instead, its role will be filled by a V8 sports car based on the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept, powered by the F10 M5′s twin turbo 4.4L V8, which will compete with the Audi R8 head on. This contradicts insider sources which have stated that the Vision ED car is not intended to compete with the R8.

BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has once again confirmed at BMW’s annual financial results press conference today that “there will be front wheel drive BMWs in the smaller vehicle classes in the future.” New FWD and AWD drivetrains are in the works and will be used in a new range of smaller entry level BMW cars and Mini cars. The new FWD models will slot in under the entry-premium 1-series models, which will keep their RWD architecture.

The F10 Alpina B5 has been undergoing testing near Alpina’s headquarters. The F10 B5 is expected to be based on the F10 550i, with a reworked 4.4L N63 motor (V8 twin turbo).
