The M4 will not hit dealers until next Summer, but the rumor mill is already churning for a lightweight track model.

Carsales claims BMW M sources have hinted at a lightweight track focused M4 coming in 2016 as part of the celebrations for BMW’s 100th birthday.

Taking after the E92 M3 GTS, the lightweight M4 is rumored to feature two seats only, more power, less weight (target below 1400 kg / 3086 lb) and manual transmission only.

BMW M will attempt to achieve this weight by expanding the … CONTINUED

BMW M always claims that it subscribes to no dogmas while considering all possibilities in developing new models. That now includes the possibility of all-wheel-drive M5 and M6 models.

In a recent interview with Motoring, BMW M CEO Dr. Friedrich Nitschke acknowledges that “I’ve looked at the numbers and 70 to 80 percent of E63 AMGs are all-wheel drive in the US now.”

He then confirms that: “On our cars we are thinking of all-wheel drive, but it won

Automotive News is reporting that BMW has greenlighted a 1 Series Sedan on the UKL platform, meaning the entry level sedan will be FWD. We bet that the “1 Series Sedan” part of the title grabbed your attention, as BMW enthusiasts have been clamoring for a small sports sedan ever since the 3 Series began hitting the gym too hard and packing on some extra weight/size. We’re also sure that many of you were then disappointed to read the letters F W D. Unfortunately, the … CONTINUED

BIMMERPOST member ///Megalomaniac got up close and very personal with an F80 M3 prototype this past weekend. He recounts his spotting with us all:

Today I spotted this F80 M3 on my way back home. Thought I should share it with you!

First thing what came in my mind was: “Yes, I’m the first who can show a picture of the redline!” But as I came closer and looked into the car, the whole speedo was blacked out and nothing was to see! I think it … CONTINUED

The long rumored 2 Series Gran Coupe has yet to be spotted in testing, but we’d be highly surprised if BMW did not go after the CLA and A3 sedan with its own small sports sedan. The company is seemingly entering all niches in which its German competitors have offerings, even niches with much smaller sales potential than the small sedan space, so we expect to see a 2 Series “Gran Coupe” sedan after the Coupe and Convertible 2 Series are released. Artist Theophilus Chin … CONTINUED

Are there any M versions of i cars in the pipeline? No, according to Cypselus von Frakenberg, BMW Group head of technology communications. Speaking at the Frankfurt IAA show, Mr. Frankenberg says that not only was there zero input from M engineers in the development of the i8, but there will be no M version in the future. In his words:

“It is separate – M and i,” he begins. “It’s two different sub-brands, but there will be no ‘M’ i-car in the future.

“These [M] are … CONTINUED

Last year, Mr. Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO of BMW of North America, confirmed to us an inline 6 cylinder engine for the upcoming M3/M4, and we showed you spy photos of the engine. Despite these confirmations, stubborn rumors pop up periodically regarding a potential V6 configuration for the upcoming s55 engine.

If you needed any further convincing, now hear it from the BMW NA CEO himself (again). Speaking at an event that we are currently attending for the launch of the new X5 and 4 … CONTINUED

Now that the 4 Series Coupe has been revealed and the Convertible nears its debut, the next model in the lineup – the 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36), has re-emerged in testing, after a nearly 6 month hiatus since our last spotting. It has re-emerged with Eric Bana doing the testing and with less camouflage than ever – shedding the heavy camouflage from its front and rear (that’s not really Eric Bana).

What’s revealed is what was expected – a Gran Coupe styled 4 Series which … CONTINUED

You’ve heard recent M4/M3 prototypes blasting around the Nurburgring [M4 vid] [M3 vid], now have a listen at how they sound around town.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION OR NOT?
