The first 4 Series model has been revealed in the form of the 4 Series Coupe and it will eventually be joined by the Convertible and a 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36) variant.

The Coupe begins production this July, while the Convertible begins later this year in November. The 4 Series Gran Coupe will debut next year, with production possibly by late 2014 – early 2015.

With the reveal of the 4 Series Coupe, some digital artists have taken to photoshop for some new Gran Coupe renders. As you can see from the renders and spy photos below, the 4 Series Gran Coupe, like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, will be a 4-door version of the Coupe model and feature a … CONTINUED

Nearly a month ago, we spotted the first non-black F82 M4 coupe prototype (in Silverstone) on the road (reposted below). We’ve just spied a Silverstone F82 M4 testing on the Nurburgring, wearing M Carbon Ceramic Brakes. This prototype doesn’t reveal any new physical details, but we do have a new technical detail to share.

We were recently told by a high-ranking BMW M official intimately familiar with M3/M4 development that the engine powering the M3/M4 will feature a nearly 8000 RPM redline. As we’ve reported all along, the M3/M4′s S55 engine will be an inline 6 cylinder with mutiple turbos, outputting around 100 lb-ft more torque and approximately same horsepowers as the current M3 (S65) engine. For comparison, the current M3 engine redlines at 8400 RPM. … CONTINUED

Motor Trend has posted some more info and speculations on the upcoming joint sports car project between BMW and Toyota (also see recent news here and here).

The lead engineer will be none other than Tetsuya Tada, the chief engineer responsible for the very successful Toyota 86 (AKA FR-S / GT86 / BRZ). Tada San is a rockstar among fans of the Toyota 86. Some of his engineering philosophies can be seen in the interviews posted below. If the BMW-Toyota joint sports car project is engineered according to these principles, we are in for a treat.

He has already visited with BMW several times in the past year since the greenlighting of this project. “I am hoping for a synergy effect with BMW that will result in … CONTINUED

Car and Driver speculates on a BMW M8 super car coming in 2016, an on-again off-again rumor. Without citing sources, they say that BMW will be pursing a 2760 weight target through the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, magnesium and titanium.

Its powerplant will be a upgraded version of the M5 and M6′s 4.4L turbo S63Tu engine, matched to DCT dual clutch transmission, outputting 600-650 horsepowers.

The M8 price is said to be around 250,000 euros or $330,000 equivalent.

The reveal of the all new 2014 BMW X5 (F15) is imminent, but testing continues on the F15 X5 M.

Testing on the F15 X5 M began last year [first sighting], but current mules have now dropped much camouflage. What’s revealed are the expected signature M components – huge front air intakes, aggressive sideskirts and rear diffuser, blue M brakes, and cross drilled rotors (the first for any X5 model). We also get a better look at the quad exhaust pipes which, unlike the current X5 M, feature a new angled design (like we’ve seen on the F82 M4 prototypes).

The F15 X5 is expected to weigh less than the current E70 X5 and ride on a modified version of the F10 5 series chassis. As for … CONTINUED

Per BMW insider Scott26, rumor comes of the 2 Series Gran Coupe now being ‘fast tracked’ for a 2015 release:

Yes the 2 Series might be behind the CLA and the A3 Sedan. But as the 6 Series Gran Coupe showed that it can be worth the wait. The 4 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe will not be any different. With the 2 Series Gran Coupe now fast tracked for 2015 , BMW intend to make the gran entrance in this segment, the appearance will not just be what counts. With a greater emphasis on dynamics and typical BMW character.

If you read some of the reviews of the CLA there is some ride and dynamic issues that have been picked up by the media.

BMW are … CONTINUED
