Tiff Needeell, one of the more respected TV automotive reviewers tests the 1M coupe in the hills of the Scottish countryside. How did the 1M perform according to Tiff?
Tiff seems ultra pleased with the 1M’s “great feel, the chassis, the revs of this lovely engine, the throttle response.” He points out some lag at 1500 RPM in 6th gear, but calls the acceleration at 4000 RPM in 3rd gear virtually instantaneous. As for handling, the 1M has great turn in and even with traction control off, it powers out of turns with the back end firmly planted.
Tiff’s conclusion? The 1 Series M Coupe is an enthusiast’s dream. No surprises with that conclusion.
Our review of the BMW 1M coupe from last week’s BMW west coast press drive event at the Willow Springs International Raceway has been posted. We wondered if there would be any unique perspective for us to share with our readers. We hope so. We’ve shared our opinion on how the 1M compares to the M3 on the road from an M3 owner’s perspective, how the 1M performs on the track according to a BMW performance driving instructor with 25 years of racing experience, and a description of the Willow Springs experience (as well as tips on negotiating the track). We hope you enjoy and find our review helpful.
Car and Driver has the very first 1M vs. competition shootout, and the 1M emerged victorious over some formidable competition on some formidable grounds – versus the Audi TT RS and the Infiniti IPL G37 at the famed Tail of the Dragon roads. The 1M coupe was the “clear winner,” and described as neither a performance poseur nor a cynical styling exercise.
The fifth review from a 1addicts member who attended the BMW 1 series M coupe test drive event is in. This one features feedback from the perspective of an E46 M3 owner. Read on inside.
This is the most comprehensive review yet of the 1-series M coupe from BMW’s pre-drive event. See how the 1M coupe felt from the perspective of an E30 M3 owner who also happens to be a driving instructor.
Hi everyone. I was one of the three participants from the US and my reference for comparison is my 2008 135.
Let me start with some cliff notes for those of you who may not want to read the entire review. After this experience, and depending on how the 1M will be priced, Im looking at putting my 135 up for sale which I never thought I would do. I really do like my 135, but the 1M is on a whole different level.
Before this pre-drive event, I took out a 2008 E92 M3 6MT to get an idea how it would compare. The first thing I noticed compared to my 135, was … CONTINUED
Next up is an excellent written review of the 1 series M coupe from a 135i owner’s perspective. Woland’s Advocate loved the 1m coupe prototype and it shows in his expertly written words. Check it out inside!
I am the only Asian test driver of this event.
I have a Z4 23i & a X5 30xdrive. I have driven 135 convertible before.
The first impression was not so impressive because the real shape of the car was masked by the camouflage. But I noticed the back of the car was so wide. The sound of starting the engine was wonderful. The clutch is not extremely hard. The gear shift distance is short & precise. Easy to handle (this is my 1st time driving a left-hand drive MT car).
After we went onto the highway, it was raining heavily. I already noticed the steering was very sensitive. The dampers were so good & no jumping at all. … CONTINUED
