Here’s an update from Scott on the BMW M1, including the naming/badging process, launch cycle, testing schedule, filming in Los Angeles, and social media marketing.
Spotted during testing on the Nurburgring today was the BMW M1 test mule! This test mule doesnt wear the more advanced prototype M1 body as we posted earlier, but is out testing powertrain, chassis, suspension, and handling properties. We also see for the first time what could be the carbon fiber roof.

Resident photoshop guru Gerald Alvarez has almost hit the BMW M1 design on the head with his latest beautiful render. So close in fact that BMW insider Scott26 thought that he was looking at official pictures when spotted Gerald’s latest M1 impression!
We just posted the latest BMW M1 / 1M spyshots yesterday, but Gerald Alvarez has already been hard at work photochopping the car based on the latest hints from the spy photos. He’s even added the M styling cues that are so far missing from the test mule.
Here is it folks! The BMW M1 test mule in its real bumper, widened fenders, integrated duckbill trunk spoiler, upgraded M wheels, large brakes with cross-drilled rotors, and other bits of M goodies!! Although the hood power bulge, quad exhausts, and M side gills are not yet apparent, these are cosmetic items which are simply not yet added to this early production test mule.
Scott26 provides some sketches and notes to a BMW M1 vs. S1000RR commercial. It reads: In the city traffic a lone superbike (S1000) weaves in between the traffic it’s heavenly sound reverberating off the tall skyscrapers that surround the street…and the S1000 RR hits speed as it crosses an interchange, focus on the car that comes speeding through into view after the bike, engine roaring , performance at full visual , chases the bike through the streets of LA into the 2nd St Tunnel… THE DUEL IS ON…

BMW inside Scott26 provides some updates on BMW M1 development (full info inside), including introduction & production timeline, pricing, convertible version, and more. Whether the information is accurate is for you to decide, but it’s certainly somewhat assuring to continue hearing M1 details.
Insideline reports that there is no BMW M1 coming. This comes after the nonappearance of the M1 concept at the 2010 Geneva Motorshow, at which it was expected. Instead there will be a hopped up 135is version of the 1-series. But, BMW insider Scott26 maintains that the M1 is coming. Who really knows? Nobody but Rumplestiltskin!
