On this episode of Head 2 Head Jonny Lieberman is joined by Mike Shaffer and two extremely potent hyper sedans, the 2014 BMW M5 Competition and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Model. Between the two of them, these two mighty Germans produce 1152horsepower and 1092 pound-feet of torque. On paper. After a day of horsing around/testing Shaffer and Lieberman grow suspicious of each twin-turbo V-8′s actual output. So, they take them to the dyno gurus at K&N engineering to learn what’s what. The newest catalog of M Performance Parts for the M5 and M6 has officially been announced and released.

While we were in Portugal for the 4 Series Coupe launch, we also had a first look and drive of the M5 and M6 with Competition Package [full details]. We’ll be sharing some first drive thoughts soon, but for now, have a look and listen at the cars in action. None of the cars in the photos are equipped with the 20″ Competition Package wheels, but you can see them in action in the videos below.

For those not familiar with the M5/M6 Competition Package, it features the following:

Power increase by 11kW (15HP) to 423kW (575 HP)
Stiffer stabilizer (anti-roll) bars
Stiffer and lower suspension (shocks and springs) (10mm lower than standard M5).

We promised recently to try to get answers for some commonly asked questions our members have about the M5 and M6 Competition Package which begins production this month, and here they are below. First, a primer on the package:

2014 Competition Package details:

Power increase by 11kW (15HP) to 423kW (575 HP)
Stiffer stabilizer (anti-roll) bars

With the central aim of addressing the handling of the BMW M5 and M6, today marks the release of an all new competition package for the entire M5 and M6 lineup.

Now before you say anything, this is not merely a cosmetics package, but a package which seems to really tweak the car from top to bottom with a nod to the driving enthusiast in all of us. Being that most of the complaints directed at the M5 and M6 so far have been directed at its handling and steering feel, BMW has directed most of the upgrades to these departments.
