Here are some photos from the Drift Record Attempt this past Saturday at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC.

The driver was Performance Center Instructor Johan Schwartz in a bone stock F10 M5. They only changed the engine oil. The old record was 41 miles or 251 laps on the skid pad. The new record is now 51 miles and it took 322 laps on the skid pad to get the record.

A bright yellow probably wouldn’t be our first choice of BMW Individual colors for an M5, but if you’re trying to get noticed in Qatar, where chrome wrapped cars are not out of place, this color choice makes more sense.

The exact color is Atacama Yellow, which was first introduced on the Limited Edition Design Pure Impulse Z4 for the UK.

We’ve seen Atacama Yellow on several other BMW models since: http://www.bimmerpost.com/?s=atacama

This is perhaps the best sounding clip we’ve heard yet of the 2012 F10 M5. Many people have lamented the loss of the iconic naturally aspirated V10 of the previous generation M5 and one of the reasons is the expectation that the bi-turbo V8 won’t sound nearly as good. This exhaust clip may go far in convincing some people otherwise however. F10 M5 exhaust video clip inside.

The 2012 M5 (F10) will come in a fairly extensive choice of colors, including some beautiful individual exterior color options. One of the individual exterior color options is Brilliant White Metallic, which we’ve spotted hanging out at BMW M HQ in Garching, Germany.

Besides the individual brilliant white metallic exterior paint, the this M5 also has other individual options, such as the black painted mirrors and wheels. The red leather interior looks great set off against the white and black exterior color scheme.

As for not having blue brakes, it’s probably because it’s not a production M5, but a factory test car.

We’ve put together a color preview guide for the F10 M5, which can be seen at http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=546540

Sometime in the first half of August, certain selected registered users from the M-Power.com Closed Room will be chosen to be the first handful of people to drive the all new F10 M5.

No information as to the test drive locale yet, but be sure to register regardless, as you can always decline later (though you’d be crazy to )

In order to have the chance to be selected at all, you must be registered in the M-Power.com Closed Room, so be sure to sign up at http://www.m-power.com/_open/b/closedroom.jsp?lang=en
