CAR magazine took the 2012 640i coupe out for their first drive experience of BMW’s newest 6-series coupe (the F13). The review was conducted by a self-described hardened BMW fan who we presume has plenty of BMW experience with which to compare the F13 against.
The reviewer falls in love with the drivetrain, but does he love the car overall? It sounds like the answer is “it depends.” Viewed properly as a GT car, the car has no better rivals in the luxury coupe segment. Where it may fall short is if the driver expects an edgy sportscar.
Based on recent spy photos of the upcoming M6 coupe and cribbing some details from the F10 M5, we’ve generated some renders of BMW’s upcoming range topping M coupe. Enjoy!

We bring you more photos of the upcoming BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, which continues testing in Germany. Spotted for the first time here is a black mule (all previous prototypes were white). It continues to impress us with its extremely low slung and sleek stance and proportions.
Current expectation is for the Gran Coupe to hit showrooms in 2012 as a 2013 Model Year vehicle. Engine range is expected to be identical to the 6-Series Coupe.
Surprisingly, despite the slew of M6 spy photos we’ve brought you since last year, not a single prototype has been in any color other than black. That’s no longer the case as this space gray F12 M6 convertible was just spied on the streets of Munich.
The camouflage level remains the same as recent M6 convertible mules, with the front and rear fascia still mostly masked, but, as we’ve discussed previously — the details on the rear bumper can be made out through the tape, and appears to follow the current M trademark design, which is similar to the rear bumper on the 1M and X3 M Sport. It is still not known if the centerpiece would be black as on the 1M or painted as on … CONTINUED
The 2012 BMW F13 M6 coupe has lost much of its camouflage, providing the most revealing look yet at the upcoming range topping M coupe. The F13 M6 coupe has now entered FEP (final evaulation phase). We think that the M6 may look wider than the regular 6-series coupe, perhaps to accomodate the super wide rear tires.
Compared to the regular F13 coupe, the rear bumper reflectors have been moved up to just under the rear tail lights for a sportier look. This particular F13 M6 coupe sports ceramic composite brakes, coupled with 6-pot fixed piston calipers.
The 2012 M6 coupe will share the same 560hp 4.4L Twin Scroll Twin Turbo V8 from the recently revealed F10 M5 (internally dubbed the S63Tu engine)

Autoblog has posted its first drive review of the 2012 6-series coupe. Although the article is a bit difficult to follow, inside are some of its highlights.
Just considering sheer finish and accommodation for four real-sized adults, this new 2+2 BMW fairly well beats the Jaguar XK, Audi S5, and Mercedes E-Class Coupe – with or without a metal roof.
Granted, all the V8s we care to talk about here feel more like rumbling rebels of the road, but this inline powerplant from BMW is arguably the best civilian tune six in a premium passenger car. In this 6 Series, taking all things emotive and practical into account, the inline six is a better choice than the pretty good 4.4 biturbo V8.

The BMW 6 Series coupe will be available at dealerships later this fall, and now BMW has taken the wraps off the entire engine and model range of the 6-Series Coupe.
And it looks like they are giving the 6-Series the star treatment with availability of a diesel variant (640d), an xDrive variant (650i) and of course M-Sport and Individual vehicles. The new xDrive system will only be available on the 650i, but as was reported earlier a 6-cylinder 640i is now available, which should make the 6-Series more attainable.

The upcoming BMW 6-Series Coupe will come in a 640i flavor, featuring the turbocharged inline-6 series dubbed the N55. This configuration has so far not made it to the US on the Cabrio version, but Autoblog.com has confirmed that the 640i will make it here in both Coupe and Cabrio versions when the coupe arrives this fall.
The N55 is a TwinPower turbo 3.0L inline-6 pumping out 316HP and 332ft-lb of torque in European spec.
In addition to the N55, Autoblog has also learnt that the AWD xDrive system will also become a new option, but only on the V8 650i.
The M6 coupe coupe prototype has once again taken to the Nurburgring for some serious performance testing.
Although much of the front fascia remains covered in camouflage tape, it will resemble the recently revealed 6-series Coupe (official info and photos), but with an M styled bumper of course. The front brakes feature huge calipers with cross drilled rotors front and rear. Traditional quad exhausts are seen at the rear, surrounded by a still-camouflaged rear bumper which will also sport M-styling. The camouflage on the roof could possibly also indicate the presence of a carbon fiber roof underneath.
Like the upcoming M5, the M6 will be receiving a ceramic brakes option, seen for the first time on the upcoming M6 in these photos.
