The upcoming 6 series Gran Coupe, a 4-door coupe model of the current 6 series, has been spotted by our spies testing on the Nurburgring for the first time. Although the Gran Coupe will be a grand touring type car, it’s still being tested on the Nurburgring to ensure that it will deliver a sporty, yet luxurious ride. It’s pictured here wearing BMW style 356 wheels, which look rather nice and sporty on the Gran Coupe.
The low slung and sleek Gran Coupe will take on the likes of the Mercedes CLS and Audi A7. Current expectation is for the Gran Coupe to hit showrooms in 2012 as a 2013 Model Year vehicle. Engine range is expected to be identical to the 6-Series Coupe.
When it comes to BMWs, the 2012 6 series has been the aftermarket tuners’ choice at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA. Two of these debuting at the show are the Alpina B6 Biturbo and the Hamann 6 series. Info and galleries inside.
BMW chose the 6 series to showcase what owners can achieve via the BMW Individual customization program. On display were two stunning 6-series – a white coupe and a black convertible.
The 6 series coupe was painted in Brilliant White Metallic with a mouth dropping Amaro Brown | Black leather interior. The other Individual options spec’d on this car were:
BMW Individual fine wood trim – Sycamore, red brown, dark
BMW Individual headliner – Alcantara Platin
BMW Individual wooden intarsia for leather steering wheel
BMW Individual door sills
The BMW Individual 6 series convertible was painted in Citrin Black paired with an interior consisting of piano black trim with full fine-grain leather merino leather seats, center console, door trim, and instrument paneling, in opal white color.
The 2012 BMW 6 series M Sport package has debuted at the Frankfurt IAA. The M Sport package adds some aggressiveness to the normally (perhaps overly, in our opinion) svelte 6 series with a much beefier front bumper with large air inlets and integrated splitters. The profile of the 6 series gets M sport sideskirts, which resemble the M3 sideskirts and gloss black trim. And the rear receives some aggressive treatment as well with the M sport bumper with contrasting colored diffuser.
To us, the centerpieces of the M sport equipped interior are the beautiful alcantara/leather sports seats – alcantara back and seat and leather headrest and side and leg bolsters, finished off with blue contrast stitching and a small M colored piping. Par for the course, … CONTINUED
Hamann will be debuting its newest builds at the Frankfurt IAA beginning tomorrow, but here’s a first look at the Hamann 650i.
Front and center in the Hamann 650i tuning package is the complete replacement bumper with LED daytime running lights and complete rear bumper replacement. It also gets aggressive sideskirts and rear trunk spoiler.
As for performance, the power is pushed to 510hp with a ECU tune and stainless exhaust system.
The 650i is lowered by 30mm on Hamann springs.
AC Schnitzer will be debuting their latest models at next week’s Frankfurt IAA, and one of them will be their 6 series convertible.
It’s based on the 650i, but the power has been tuned up significantly to 540hp (from standard 407hp). These gains come from an ECU tune and a new exhaust system.
Cosmetic enhancements include a new front spoiler lip, radiator grille, and rear apron.
Brakes have been upgraded with new 8 piston calipers in front. The car has been lowered with Schnitzer springs and sit on 21″ Schnitzer wheels.
We will bring you more info and coverage next week from the Frankfurt IAA.
CAR magazine took the 2012 640i coupe out for their first drive experience of BMW’s newest 6-series coupe (the F13). The review was conducted by a self-described hardened BMW fan who we presume has plenty of BMW experience with which to compare the F13 against.
The reviewer falls in love with the drivetrain, but does he love the car overall? It sounds like the answer is “it depends.” Viewed properly as a GT car, the car has no better rivals in the luxury coupe segment. Where it may fall short is if the driver expects an edgy sportscar.
We bring you more photos of the upcoming BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, which continues testing in Germany. Spotted for the first time here is a black mule (all previous prototypes were white). It continues to impress us with its extremely low slung and sleek stance and proportions.
Current expectation is for the Gran Coupe to hit showrooms in 2012 as a 2013 Model Year vehicle. Engine range is expected to be identical to the 6-Series Coupe.
Autoblog has posted its first drive review of the 2012 6-series coupe. Although the article is a bit difficult to follow, inside are some of its highlights.
Just considering sheer finish and accommodation for four real-sized adults, this new 2+2 BMW fairly well beats the Jaguar XK, Audi S5, and Mercedes E-Class Coupe – with or without a metal roof.
Granted, all the V8s we care to talk about here feel more like rumbling rebels of the road, but this inline powerplant from BMW is arguably the best civilian tune six in a premium passenger car. In this 6 Series, taking all things emotive and practical into account, the inline six is a better choice than the pretty good 4.4 biturbo V8.
We worked this 640i Coupe on the … CONTINUED
