While we’re all still drooling over the unveiling of the 1-Series M Coupe, some might wonder how it will fare against what will possibly be its biggest rival – the Audi RS3. We can already hear some moaning ‘coupe vs hatchback, RWD vs AWD and manual vs double clutch’ to stress both cars aren’t even rivals, but look at the specs to see that both a pretty close in power, size and price. US BMW dealers have received the official 1 series M coupe product bulletin, signaling the start of communications regarding the 1m coupe. The bulletin summarizes general facts of the 1M coupe as well as laying out specific US production and pricing info.
The 1M will be limited production after all and production begins in 2011. BMW’s Order Bank will be open as of December 20th, meaning the official option and package lists will be listed (and orders possibly being submitted on this date).
There has been some confusion as to how the 1M coupe’s M-Drive and MDM are triggered, and whether that changes with iDrive or not. We have put together a primer on how they work exactly and what the buttons accomplish respectively.
Unlike the M3 and M5/6, the M-button on the steering wheel (red circle) is not programmable. It’s always set to trigger a sharper throttle response mapping (comparable to the POWER button in the E9x M3), and nothing else.
The M Dynamic Mode aka MDM cannot be programmed to be activated by the same M button. Thus it’s triggered by the MDM button (blue circle) located at the dashboard. As usual with BMWs, a long press of said button will deactivate DSC completely.

The 1-series M Coupe’s full release and specs will come at approximately 6PM EST, but basic specs have been posted by BMW insider Scott26. The 1M Coupe will feature 335hp, 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds, 332 lb-ft torque (+37 overboost), and 1570kg (EU) weight. Pricing will come in at approximately 50,500 Euros.
