Just days ahead of the start of the new DTM season, BMW Team Schnitzer driver Bruno Spengler (CA) already has his first race at the Hockenheimring (DE) under his belt – although it did come at the wheel of a somewhat alien car to the Canadian. BMW Motorsport invited the reigning DTM champion and 1989 winner Roberto Ravaglia (IT) to a very special “Generation Game”.

Both drivers brought with them the cars with which they won their DTM titles. Spengler triumphed last season with the current BMW M3 DTM, while Ravaglia was crowned DTM Champion at the wheel of the BMW M3 in 1989. However, it was all change in Hockenheim. The eight BMW DTM M3 cars which will race for BMW Motorsports in the upcoming 2013 DTM season were recently unveiled at a special event at BMW Welt. Prior to that however, the team was busy test driving and making preparations for the upcoming season at Valencia and Jerez tracks in Spain.

The eight BMW drivers will next test their cars at Hockenheim (Germany) for the final pre-season test, ahead of the start of the season in four weeks time. Enjoy the sights and sounds below!

Exciting news for auto racing fans, including BMW Motorsports fans. GRAND-AM Road Racing and the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), which administers the popular German DTM racing series, have entered into a cooperation agreement to bring a version of DTM to North America. The earliest the new series would begin would be 2015.

If this comes to fruition, not only would we see BMW DTM cars racing against Audi and Mercedes DTM in North America, but also again Japanese Super GT cars from Honda, Nissan and Toyota, and American manufacturers’ entries.

Just two races into its comeback season, BMW is back on the top step of the DTM podium: 19 years, six months and 25 days after the last triumph, Bruno Spengler (CA), at the wheel of the BMW Bank M3 DTM, crossed the finish line at the Lausitzring (DE) in first place. In a thrilling second race of the season, Spengler held off the challenge of Mercedes driver Gary Paffett (GB), who finished runner-up. Augusto Farfus (BR) came third in the Castrol EDGE BMW M3 DTM to complete a fantastic team result for BMW.

The BMW M3 DTM cars are set to take on their Audi and Mercedes Benz rivals for real and for the first time in just over two weeks at Hockenheim (on April 29), but the race cars first face off in this photo session from Media Day, where for the first time the final DTM cars were revealed together. This will be BMW’s first DTM race since October 11, 1992.

Subject to the same regulations, the three German marquees’ cars share similar general aero bits and styling, but each also maintains the essence of the respective models’ styling cues - grilles, lights, and the like.

Munich, 5th April 2012. With three weeks to go until the first race of the 2012 DTM season, BMW Motorsport has officially completed its test programme. From Monday to Thursday the three teams and their six drivers were hard at work at the Hockenheimring (DE), traditionally the venue of the opening round, which this year will get underway on 29th April 2012. BMW will return to the DTM race series beginning this year with six DTM M3 race cars. We’ve already seen the DTM M3s, and now we get a peek at the BMW M3 DTM Safety Car for the first time, albeit in not yet final form.

The M3 DTM Safety Car’s exterior shows a new hood design with extra venting and host of BMW M Performance parts - carbon fiber splitters, black grilles, carbon fiber mirror covers, carbon fiber trunk spoiler lip, and black competition wheels.

The interior gets a full roll cage, Recaro race seats, flat bottom alcantara Performance steering wheel with blue tab
