We were on hand to witness the BMW X4 Concept making its world debut today at the 2013 Auto Shanghai. As the X4 Concept draws heavily on the design of the X6 SAC, it looks very much like a mini-X6. Expect certain elements on the concept model to be changed when the production version hits the market next year - notably the headlight lighting elements, front bumper, mirrors and door handles.

The interior was not showcased, but expect it to share an interior with the current F25 X3. Enjoy the images from the show below.

The X4 Concept has been revealed and as expected, it’s a mini version of the X6 SAV, both a coupe version of their more upright brothers (X3 and X5, respectively).

Let’s have a look at how the X4 compares to the X6 in size and styling.

The just revealed X4 Concept previews the production X4 (F26) SAV which will share the same platform and underpinnings with the X3 (F25) when the X4 hits the market next year. The two will share the same powertrains and have mirroring model lines, as the X6 does with the X5.

As for physical size, the concept X4 shares nearly the same length and wheelbase as the X3, while being wider and lower than the X3. Here’s how the dimensions compare and a look at how the styling differs between the two.

In case you missed it in the recent statements by the BMW CEO, the BMW X4 SAV is confirmed to be hitting the market in 2014.

Also being confirmed by BMW is an already well-accepted fact - that the upcoming X4 will be built solely at the U.S. Spartanburg plant, which already produces the X3, X5 and X6. The X1 is built in Europe (or in China for the Chinese market).

“I need more capacity in Spartanburg, not only for the upcoming X4, but also for the current X range,” Ian Robertson, BMW’s board member for marketing and sales, recently told Automotive News. The BMW X4 (F26) is being rumored to be debuting at the 2013 Detroit NAIAS in January. That the X4 is coming is no surprise as BMW previously officially announced its intention to build the X4. What wasn’t known however, was the timing of its debut.

The X4 is said to be coming in concept form at the NAIAS, to be followed in 2014 by the production model. The X4 will be built on the same platform as the X3 and is reportedly also the same length as the X3, at 183 inches. They will also share powerplants - a range of 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
