Jeremy Clarkson has published his list of the top 100 cars of 2013, and the BMW i3 has placed first, i8 second, and the 3 Series second, in their respective categories of Electric Cars/Hybrids, Supercars, and Family/Estate Cars.

The other three BMW models to crack the 100 list were the 7 Series (8th place in Executive category), the 5 Series (10th place in the Executive category) and the X3 (9th place in SUV category).

We’ve shown you tons of BMW i8 images from its recent world debut at the Frankfurt auto show, but nothing provides a better true to life impression than seeing it in the real world environment. And since the production i8 [full details/specs] has not yet hit the roads, we give you the next best thing – photos of the i8 test cars spotted in the wild.

Seen here is the i8 in Ionic Silver, Protonic Blue and Sophisto Gray, as well as some short video clips of the i8 spotted on the highway. The BMW i8 will be priced from $135,700 (plus destination and handling) when it arrives in US showrooms in the Spring of 2014.

The BMW i8 made its splash onto the stage during the BMW press conference at the 2013 Frankfurt IAA show in Protonic Blue, but there were several more colors on hand at the show.

Check out the i8 in Crystal White, Ionic Silver and Sophisto Grey. These four colors round out the initial colors available for the i8, which hits US showrooms in Spring 2014 at a starting price of $135,700 (plus destination and handling).

The BMW DTM drivers stopped in at BMW Plant Leipzig (DE) on their way to the eighth race of the DTM season in Oschersleben (DE). Bruno Spengler (CA), Dirk Werner (DE), Augusto Farfus (BR), Joey Hand (US), Martin Tomczyk (DE), Andy Priaulx (GB), Marco Wittmann (DE) and Timo Glock (DE) started their visit with an autograph session. Hundreds of BMW employees took the opportunity to meet and have their photo taken with the drivers.

The next highlight was a guided tour of the production facility for the BMW cars of tomorrow, the BMW i3 and the BMW i8. The Frankfurt IAA 2013 show is underway, with the public days beginning this Saturday. BMW occupies an entire hall for its display and has 62 cars on the show floor, with 24 more additional cars on the elevated track.

Watch some of the most important model debuts below, which is of course headlined by the BMW i cars – the i8 and i3.
