BMW took the 2013 F10 M5 onto the salt flats for a some high speed run, slowed for our eyes with a high speed slow motion camera, where it mimics a high speed bullet as it hits various targets. The promo mixes a bit of high art with the aggressive sounds and in-car footage from the M5.

The location reminded us of the popular and by now classic E39 M5 commercial which was shot on the Bonneville Salt Flats. See both videos below.

Press drives for the 2013 BMW M6 (F13) coupe are underway and the first reviews are in. This one hails from Autoexpress UK and they rate the F13 M6 a 4 of 5 stars. Given that the M6 coupe weighs 130kg less than the convertible, they deem it a much better drive than the convertible. With less weight to lug around, and using the optional carbon-ceramic brakes fitted to the test car, the Coupe goes and stops with monumental force. Full review inside.

If you’re an M5 and manual transmission fan then this current F10 M5 generation will be your last chance to own the combination. BMW M’s head of engineering, Albert Biermann let on this week to Insideline that there are no plans to fit the next generation M5 or M6 with a manual transmission. Manual transmission is currently offered as a no-cost option for the F10 M5 in North America (only) and will likely become an option for the F12/F13 M6 as well.

The reasoning is as expected – the manual’s low take rates do not justify its development costs. According to Biermann, “Last year, maybe 15-20 percent of our M5s in the U.S. were manuals and maybe this year it will be 15 percent. It’s declining.” He … CONTINUED

The on-again-off-again BMW supercar successor to the M1 is now rumored to be coming in 2016, according to Autobild. Why so long? Because the i8 electric hybrid sportscar launches in 2014 and BMW would like to give the i8 some time on the market without any potential sales cannibalization posed by a successor to the M1. We think it’s unlikely that BMW will revive the M1 nameplate, but may instead choose a previously unused and higher identifier – perhaps the M10 (which was recently trademarked).

The market introduction is so far away for this potential halo sports model that engine and performance specs are mostly speculative and subject to change, but the report speculates that it may be powered by a turbocharged V8 with 600-650 horsepowers, with … CONTINUED
