BMW insider Scott26 is reporting that BMW is currently working on some special packages/editions for the E92 M3 coupe before it bows out in 2013. In the works is a lightweight (CRT type) package for the E92 M3 coupe which will feature some of the key details of the M3 CRT sedan such as the carbon fiber hood and special seats. It’s not known whether such a package/model will be homologated for the US market.
BMW is however considering some sort of updated Competition Package for the US.
Sometimes it’s mad fun (and great sounding) to rip off some revs in your BMW in enclosed spaces such as tunnels or underground garage. So how would the 560hp F10 M5 MotoGP Safety Car with its Akrapovic exhaust system sound in the BMW Welt? As you can see in the video inside, pretty damn awesome!
Seen here is the very first 2012 M5 (F10) to hit the Turkish market, on display at a BMW dealer. What does it cost to take home this bad boy in Turkey? Only 277,018 euros, or a measley $358,267!
German magazine Autozeitung has pitted the new BMW M5 (F10) against its bigger cousin. The F10 M5 is powered the S63Tu, an improved version of the BMW X6M’s S63 engine. Given the S63Tu’s enhancements over the S63 and the F10 M5′s lighter weight, the M5 winning in all categories and placing in 1st is certainly not surprising.
What is interesting however is to see more real world F10 M5 performance test results.
They were able to get the F10 M5 from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.2 seconds and from 0-200km/h (124mph) in just 11.7 seconds, which is wicked fast.
The rest of the data, despite being in German, is pretty self explanatory and easy to tell, so have a look below.
We spent some time at the 2012 Detroit NAIAS with Matt Russell, M Brand Manager for BMW North America. Matt is a BMW enthusiast like us and is a BIMMERPOST member himself. We asked Matt some current hot M related topics and he was able to share the following.
BMW 1M COUPE
What were the final production numbers for the US 1M?
740 units. The very first one imported was the Valencia Orange 1M Pace Car which debuted at the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona.
Matt further expanded on the reason the 1M production run wasn’t extended into the 2012 model year. It was not due to any issues related to engine/emissions certification, but simply because BMW could not get enough MY2012 production to justify homologation. This had … CONTINUED
A BIMMERPOST / 5POST member was able to sneak a peek at his almost-delivered F10 M5 yesterday. His car was at the dealer pending homologation into Singapore due to it being among the first batch of production F10 M5s. This is the very first frozen gray F10 M5 we have seen, and it will no doubt look even better under proper lighting and picture quality. Writeup and proper photo shoot to come next week, so stay tuned!
A notice sent from BMWNA M Brand Manager, United States, Matt Russell to all BMW dealers gives some light on some more launch info for the F10 M5 into the US market. Some of this is new info and some were previously confirmed.
Pricing, official Dealer Bulletin, product brochures, and Ordering Guide will be released concurrent to the New York International Auto Show in the first week of April.
Start of Production will match other MY13 5 Series models. [As we posted last week from the 2012 Detroit NAIAS, the expected SOP date is late July, for September deliveries. No model year 2012.]
European Delivery will be offered, and is expected to be available … CONTINUED
We’re not sure why we’re compelled to report the first crashes for each new BMW model, but perhaps it’s to serve as a warning to all our members to always drive with caution, and/or maybe its just a bit of a rubber-necker syndrome.
The first reported F10 M5 crash has unfortunately just occurred today. This M5 is on its way to the BMW dealer at The Hague (BMW Den Haag) for assessment and repairs.
Upon first glance, it appears that only the front end and bumper were damaged, but upon further inspection it seems that there’s also a gash. Hopefully these are mostly cosmetic damages and the car will be back on the road soon. bmw m5 crash accident.
Right now, there are two very interesting BMWs that have either been released or are about to be released. Namely, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe (just released) and the F12 BMW M6 which is literally on the verge of official release.
And so, speculation has rightly so centered around the possibility of the ultimate BMW M sedan, a combination of the 6 Series GC and the M6, a car to challenge and crush the 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG. Well, BMW has answered the call and it looks like the M6 Gran Coupe is a real car and judging my the very scant amount of camouflage on the car, is just around the corner as well. One wonders if the M6 and M6 Gran Coupe may … CONTINUED
