Auto Motor Und Sport recently had some studio time with the M235i Coupe and they took the opportunity to bring it together with the iconic 2002 Turbo for a photoshoot and comparison look.
What we’re looking at is a 1973 2002 Turbo powered by a 2 liter turbo 4 cylinder (the first turbocharged production car in Europe) with 170 HP and 180 LB-FT torque. The 2002 Turbo weighs just 2,381 pounds. 0-60 MPH took 6.9 seconds.
By contrast, the M235i features a 3 liter turbo 6 cylinder outputting 322 HP and 332 LB-FT. It weighs 3200-3300 pounds and covers 0-60 in 4.8 sec (auto) / 5.0 sec (manual).

BMW Motorsport is expanding its range of cars within the BMW Sports Trophy Customer Racing programme: from 2014, privateer BMW teams and drivers will have the opportunity to line up at events with the new BMW M235i Racing. With a price of 59,500.00 Euros (excl. VAT) and impressive performance figures, the production-based coupé meets all the basic requirements of a successful entry-level racing car.
The plan is initially for the car to be used in series and events such as the VLN Endurance Championship and the Nürburgring 24 Hours on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE). Looking ahead, the BMW M235i Racing should also be successful on international stages for BMW Sports Trophy drivers.

In case you haven’t yet seen this, here’s the official international brochure for the BMW M235i and 2 Series Coupe. There isn’t much info that isn’t covered in our Official Thread, but if you’re already a 2 Series fan, the extra eye candy alone should be worth a look.
The 2 Series began production earlier this month and is set for a March launch date, after it makes its world debut at the Detroit auto show in January. For U.S. customers, the M235i coupe is priced starting at $44,025 and the 228i at $33,025.

Production of the 2 Series Coupe officially begins today at BMW’s Leipzig plant, which also builds the X1, F20/F21 1 Series and the i3 electric car (i8 will also be produced at the same plant in 2014).
Initially, 720 2-Series will be produced per day, but that figure may be increased if needed. So far, the 2 Series lineup includes M235i, 228i, 220i, 225 and 225d coupes. The 2 Series convertible will join the lineup next year.
Meanwhile, some M235i preproduction models were recently spotted in public. This white M235i coupe was spotted in New Jersey by BIMMERPOST member manoloo and the red M235i in Leipzig by an Autogespot member.
