Geek out with us and follow this analysis by a BIMMERPOST member in which he predicts the upcoming F80 M3 and F82 M4 s55 engine RPM redline, by way of a technical sound analysis.
He began testing a couple of dyno recordings and fairly quickly found an E92 M3 video and V12 Aston with 6800 rpm redline. He recorded the sounds (just from crappy Youtube videos) and then did a Fourier transform to get the spectral content. E92 M3 frequency peak at redline should be 560 Hz, I measured 570 Hz. V12 Aston is 680 Hz theoretical, 688 observed. In both cases “the” peak was actually the second peak not the first. Those results are within about 2%. The method absolutely can work.

The upcoming M235i Coupe will beat the 1M Coupe around the Nurburgring, so says Klaus Froehlich, Senior Vice President Brand and Product Strategies at BMW. In speaking to Autoexpress, he states that:
“I have just signed off the M235i’s M Sport performance kit, which will include a proper limited slip differential – LSD. I’m just working out whether to make this an option on all models.
The M235i is as close a spiritual successor to the 2002ti that we’ve had. My initial benchmark was that it will be faster than the BMW 1M Coupe around the Nurburgring, which it is.

BMW M4 Concept Car will be unveiled at Pebble Beach in August.
M4 is more the car to convince seeing as it dispenses with history in order to forge a new beginning with a new icon.
The car will be unveiled at Pebble Beach and then flown back to Germany where it will be displayed at the IAA in Frankfurt in September.
Both M3 and M4 are being presented at the NAIAS in Detroit along with the production BMW X4.
While we were in Portugal for the 4 Series Coupe launch, we also had a first look and drive of the M5 and M6 with Competition Package [full details]. We’ll be sharing some first drive thoughts soon, but for now, have a look and listen at the cars in action. None of the cars in the photos are equipped with the 20″ Competition Package wheels, but you can see them in action in the videos below.
For those not familiar with the M5/M6 Competition Package, it features the following:
Power increase by 11kW (15HP) to 423kW (575 HP)
Stiffer stabilizer (anti-roll) bars
Stiffer and lower suspension (shocks and springs) (10mm lower than standard M5).
It appears that the F80 M3 has advanced to the final evaluation phase. The F80 has dropped some camouflage, added LED lights, and now features a trunk spoiler lip.
It’s now clear that the F80 M3 Sedan shares the same front end as the F82 M4 Coupe and each will feature an aggressive M styled front bumper with the now exposed air curtains, LED headlights and double slat grilles with M3/M4 badge. Late last year we put together a M4 render (see below) which were very accurate and gives a great preview of what the production front bumper of the M3 and M4 will look like with its aggressive air intakes and air curtains.

The latest F80 M3 spotting gives us the best look yet at its newest revealed features — double slat kidney grilles and a double-bubble carbon fiber roof.
Both the F80 M3 and F82 M4 will continue BMW’s latest trend to fit M models with double slat kidney grilles with a model badge affixed. The M6 and M5 LCI all feature this design.
And multiple M3 prototypes have now been spied with a camouflaged top, indicating a carbon fiber roof – first in the U.S. and now in Germany. The closeup photos we’ve posted show that the carbon fiber roof will have a sporty double-bubble shape – like the F82 M4 prototypes and M6 Coupes / Gran Coupes.
