Development continues on the upcoming F34 3 Series GT (Gran Turismo) model, which BMW is testing concurrently with the other future F3x variants – the F32 coupe, F31 touring.

We’ve now spied the GT model with its trunk/tailgate open, revealing its exact trunk line. These photos also confirm what we’ve said earlier – that the 3 series GT will feature a simple hatch function rather than the twin trunk arrangement on the 5er GT.

We also get some more looks at the F34′s retractable spoiler, the first on … CONTINUED

We’ve posted plenty of spy photos and videos of the next generation M3 sedan (F80) but this is the first high speed chase video we’ve seen, and the chase car is no slouch. Watch as a tuned BMW 1M coupe (with 420hp) pushes a F80 M3 prototype to 240+km/h on the Autobahn.

The F80 M3 is due to debut in the second half of 2013, likely for market release in Europe at the end of 2013 and in the US early 2014.

The Nurburgring testing season has just opened and the first BMW prototype model that we’ve spied is the upcoming M6 Gran Coupe, due to become the upcoming flagship M model upon its release next year.

The M6 and 6 Series Gran Coupe represents BMW’s first foray into the luxury “coupe” sedan niche and just as the standard 6 series Gran Coupe will compete with the Mercedes CLS lineup, the top of the line M6 variant will take on the Mercedes CLS63 AMG directly. If these photos of … CONTINUED

Perhaps the 3 Series GT (F34) has sportier intentions than most would expect. If the retractable spoiler spotted on this F34 prototype for the first time is any indication, BMW expects the 3 Series GT to be driven with plenty of gusto and not relegated to only people and cargo hauling.

As seen clearly in the photos below, the spoiler is retractable and not fixed. When the spoiler is deployed, we can see the trunk cutout for it to slot into when retracted. Like other … CONTINUED

The upcoming flagship M car – the M6 Gran Coupe, has now begun cold weather testing in Sweden.

It will directly challenge the 2012 Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG by utilizing the best BMW has to offer in terms of quality of materials and powertrain. The M6 Gran Coupe will be powered by the 4.4L twin turbo V8 S63Tu engine, but may very well feature a power bump from the standard M6 coupe and cabrio’s 560hp (maybe in the range of +20hp or so) in order to give … CONTINUED

It’s been a while since the last F80 M3 spy photos, but we’ve now spotted the next generation F80 BMW M3 Sedan undergoing winter testing in Sweden. Compared to the previous spyshots, the F80 prototype has lost a bit of camouflage – mostly at the rear which now shows the tail lights in their full glory. The car’s appearance is low, wide, and impressive with massive fender flares. The M3′s kidney grilles are also very obviously styled in a sleeker/sportier shape than the F30 3 series … CONTINUED

BMW presents the concept study of a BMW M Performance automobile featuring a six-cylinder petrol engine – consistent further development of the new BMW 1 Series’ dynamic characteristics – world premiere at the 2012 Geneva International Motor Show.

Munich. Simultaneously with the world premiere of the first BMW M Performance automobiles, BMW’s concept study of a further model from this new product category will be showcased on the media days (6 – 7 March 2012) at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show. Now that the F30 3 series sedan has been released, testing continues on all the other F3x variants – the F32 coupe, F31 touring, and this F34 Gran Turismo (GT) model.

These photos provide the best look yet at the trunk, tailgate, and rear portions of the roofline. The 3 Series GT prototypes previously wore heavy camouflage paneling concealing the true shape and styling of the trunk. The loss of the rear deck camo has shortened and tightened the car’s size and proportions.

With its sleeker trunkline and … CONTINUED

The next 3 series variant to make its debut will be the 3 series touring / wagon (F31). We’ve now spotted it with virtually no camouflage remaining. Combined with the recently revealed F31 rear design patent CGIs (images inside), we now basically know how the F31 will look when it makes its debut at the AMI auto show in Leipzig in early June (for a likely market debut in the Fall).

Unlike the F11 5 series touring, the new 3 series touring model will make a return … CONTINUED

Rumors about an M135i version have been circulating for months. Now there’s official confirmation from BMW – not in the form of a press release but via a newly launched F20 accessories price list.

As you can see in the screenshots below, there’s mention of the 135i, the 135i xDrive, and the M135i. The context is interesting too: The M Sport bumpers aren’t available as aftermarket parts for the 135i and the 135i xDrive, likely because both models come standard with them. The M135i is mentioned with … CONTINUED

It’s often difficult to perceive the size and scale of a new BMW vehicle in spy photos/videos without any other model by its side. To tell the size of the upcoming next generation BMW X5 (F15), we’ve now spied it next to both the current X5 (E70) and the current X3.

Compared to the current X5, the F15 X5 doesn’t appear to be much larger, and any increase in size (at least with respect to height and width) doesn’t seem to be very perceptible at this distance. … CONTINUED

Here is the best look yet at the gullwing / butterfly doors which will be featured on the production BMW i8 when it hits the market in 2014. The doors appear to open in the same fashion as did the BMW i8 concept.

Judging by photos, it’s apparent that the doors will not be constructed from glass, as in the concept i8. According to Scott26, the door skins are made of CFRP, but BMW is working on applying type of film over the CFRP which can be … CONTINUED

Here is the very first spy video of the 2014 BMW i8 production prototype, giving us the first live motion look and listen at the upcoming i8 hybrid sports car. Also confirmed in the video is the retaining of the gullwing doors as seen on the concept i8 car.

Check out the video and all details on the BMW i8 inside.

Although this pre-production i8 tracks the concept version’s styling generally, as expected, there are some significant changes from the i8 concept model [official info/pics]. The front fascia has lost a bit of its shark nose front slant with a new lower front bumper design, which protrudes more than that on the concept. Also, the headlights have been moved forward to the edge of the hood. This comes as no surprise considering the fact that the extremely deeply set headlights on the concept i8 would likely limit … CONTINUED

The next generation 2014 X5 (F15) continues its cold weather testing and our spies have spotted the F15 interior for the first time. Below are images of two different prototype X5s, each having different gauges and iDrive buttons. It seems that final designs on those two parts have not yet been finalized and are still undergoing evaluation. The first design seen below shows a larger iDrive button design which features a touchpad surface on top. This dash also features a full black panel display.

What we know about BMW’s aggressive push into the electric car market (via their dedicated BMW i brand) is that it is essentially a two pronged approach. Cover the exotic sports car market with the BMW i8, to effectively show that an electric car can be a desirable super-car and at the same time produce a compact and efficient city car with the BMW i3.

While both of these cars will do alot to put electric cars into the mindset of car buyers and enthusiasts, the real … CONTINUED
