BMW of North America today launched the ‘X1 Restore the Outdoors’ social media program in Seattle, WA which will run through September 10 in New York City. X1 Restore the Outdoors is a social good program that gives back to the outdoor places we love including parks, beaches, forests and recreational locations across the country.
The X1 will travel through the United States for two and half weeks, stopping at 12 predetermined locations. Drivers will take an Instagram photo at each stop and share it at the www.RestoretheOutdoors.com Facebook page. For every “Like” the photo receives, BMW will donate one dollar back to that location – up to $10,000 for each location. You give a like. BMW donates a buck.

Great news for expectant X1 owners! BMW has announced that the US launch date for the BMW X1 has been moved forward and all X1s are being released immediately for shipment (if it’s still in European port) or delivery (if it’s already in the US or arriving soon).
Also, at least one X1 is now making its rounds at certain BMW events to drum up awareness and further promote the X1. Here is one that was on display yesterday at a Golf tournament held by Steve Thomas BMW.

New BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 Sport Activity Vehicle to Make World Debuts at the New York International Auto Show.
The BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 Sport Activity Vehicle will make their World Debuts at the 2012 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (655 West 34th Street at 11th Avenue) in Manhattan. The BMW M6 Convertible and BMW X1 and will be joined by the BMW M6 Coupe, BMW X6 M (North American debuts) and the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe (U.S. auto show debut) as the featured BMW vehicles in New York. The BMW i3 and i8 Concepts will also be featured providing a glimpse into the future of mobility.

The BMW X1 and the Mini Countryman are similar in several physical dimensions, as well as its intended owner demographic. Here is a size and photo comparison between the two BMW made SAVs. The X1 is longer and has a longer wheelbase while also having a larger cargo capacity.
The X1 with M-sport package has been spotted during testing again, this time showing the 18″ M-sport wheel option. The BMW X1 M-sport will be officially announced soon according to insiders.
The X1 has been spotted out testing an M sport aero package, consisting of an M-sport front bumper, sideskirts, and rear bumper/diffuser. Also seen are M-sport wheels.
