BMW’s DCT is an excellent transmission and is now without doubt the fastest production transmission offered by BMW, but enthusiasts who appreciate rowing their own gears still get a warm fuzzy feeling when seeing a manual transmission in a new BMW model, even if it’s already been confirmed and has been seen previously — such as the 6 speed shifter seen in this F10 M5.
There are just a few US spec F10 M5s roaming the US being driven by BMW employees or on loan as press cars. One of these was just spotted (thanks Justin) in Newport Beach in Los Angeles.

BMW confirmed to us today that the 2013 F10 M5 (no 2012 model will be available in the US) will begin production for the US market in July 2012, with deliveries taking place a couple of months after that. No word on pricing yet which will be announced closer to the US market launch.
It will be available with either a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed manual transmission (now officially official, per the release below), which is welcome news for manual transmission fans. Both transmission will be available immediately upon US launch.

One of only two F10 M5s rolled into a NJ Cars and Coffee meet this weekend, showing off its 6 speed manual transmission and posing with its M5 predecessors. The M5 was driven to the event by the US M division product planner.
It was affirmed that the release date will be around August. With the US making up almost 50% of world-wide M5 sales, the factory has to be in full swing and the kinks worked out – given the intolerable nature of the US customer when it comes to faults.
The new 2012 BMW M5 will be priced at EUR 102,700 in Germany. For comparison, the last price for the E60 M5 (Sep 2010) was EUR 94,700 which means a price increase of roughly 8.5%.
Earlier this week, BMW announced the price for the UK at £73,040 for UK buyers. The last UK price for the E60 M5 was £67,300 which also tranlsates to a price increase of 8.5%.
Applying the same increase of 8.5% to the last US price (2010 M5) of $85,700, the new BMW M5 would be priced at $93,000 for the US.

After BMW released their initial set of images for the new M5, we were sure another set would become available with beautiful scenery and high action.
