The lucky folks over at Motor Trend get a chance to drive the upcoming X5 eDrive plug in, follow the link to their full article, but here are some select quotes:
You might be asking what it’s good for, other than silently cruising the Whole Foods parking lot. The idea is to be able to recapture some of the energy normally thrown away while braking and return it in the opposite direction. (Think of it in the same way Formula 1 uses its Kinetic Energy Recovery System.) It works fantastically for that.
With nearly six times the capacity of the current Activehybrids, the X5 eDrive Plug-in will have a full electric range of about 18 miles and a top speed north of 70 mph, and will … CONTINUED
Our photos of the AC Schnitzer BMW X5 from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
In 2013, the new BMW X5 celebrated its market launch. Now in 2014, there is another reason for the new SUV giant to celebrate, because the tuning experts at AC Schnitzer have taken it into their workshop to give the third generation X5 a facelift. The result is a vehicle which can scarcely be equalled in terms of power, sporting performance and superiority – and the AC Schnitzer version will be presented for the first time at the 84th Motor Show in Geneva from 6th to 16th March.
Six performance upgrades for the BMW X5 are also being prepared in Aachen. For example, the X5 M50d will be heading to the Geneva Motor Show with 316 kW / 430 hp (standard 280 kW / 381 … CONTINUED
Here’s an extended road trip report by one of our F15 X5 owners of his F15 X5 xDrive35i xLine.
The X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid model has now been spotted undergoing testing. These may only be a couple of photos, but we already know what the F15 X5 looks like. We expect the X5 eDrive to launch sometime around late 2014 – early 2015.
As for specs? The X5 eDrive Concept model was unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show last September and featured:
BMW has been advertising the 2014 F15 X5 with the tagline “The Boss is Back” (seen at the end of the second ad below) and the latest commercial coming out of Japan humorously shows just how boss the new X5 is — stopping a tough biker gang and a train dead in their tracks. The boss X5 is of course given the right of way.
We have added our newest photos of the 2015 BMW X5 M.
Testing on the second generation BMW X5 M continues while the prototypes shed some camouflage. This is the first red F85 X5 M we’ve seen and as with earlier prototypes, it wears the signature M components – huge front air intakes, more aggressive sideskirts and rear diffuser, blue M brakes, and cross drilled rotors (the first for any X5 model). We also have a better look at the quad exhaust pipes which, unlike the current X5 M, feature a new angled design (same as the upcoming M3 and M4).
We now see double-slatted kidney grilles fitted to the X5 M prototype for first time. This has … CONTINUED
