Car and Driver has released its 2013 10Best Cars list and making its 22nd straight appearance is the 2013 BMW 3 Series Sedan (F30).
Here is what Car and Driver has to say about the newest 3 Series.
For months now, some F20 1 Series and F30 3 Series owners have been reporting a rust issue with their front seats. For some, it’s just a nuisance and a bad feeling about the build quality of their BMWs, but for others it’s a serious defect.
One Korean F30 3 Series owner was so fed up with the issue that he has destroyed his F30 in protest. Driving to the BMW offices in Korea, he smashed his front windshield and spray painted his 3 Series with the words “Rust BMW.” BMW Korea offered to replace the rust parts as new, but this particular owner wanted his 320d replaced in full instead.
BMW Korea has issued an information bulletin to its dealer network with the … CONTINUED
The 2012 Essen Motor Show is underway and BMW has trotted out many of its models showcasing BMW M Performance Parts. Of particular note is the debut of the F31 3 Series Touring with M Performance Parts.
The F31 and F11 generally share the M Performance Parts from the sedan versions [recent F30 gallery] - including black kidney grilles, front bumper splitters (carbon fiber for the F11), carbon fiber mirror caps, rear diffuser, side skirt trim, M Performance brakes, M Performance exhaust system [recent sample video] and 20″ wheels (different styles for the F31 and F11). The F31 also features side body pinstripes.
We’ll have photos from the event soon, but for now have a look at this walk-through video of BMW’s section.
From BMW’s November 2012 sales numbers, here are some updated sales stats for the 3 series.
10,776 3 Series were sold in November 2012, representing a 42.4% increase over November 2011.
88,857 3 Series have been sold year-to-date in 2012, an increase of 3.5% over same period last year.
It appears that 3 Series sales are doing just fine, contrary to what some naysayers may claim.
This video demonstrates the Adaptive High Beam Assistant in the 2012 BMW 328i.
Currently, only the F30 and F01/F02 (7 Series) LCI (facelift) possess this new High Beam Assistant where the system is variable, and not just “ON/OFF”.
In the first of the 3 clips in this video, both left and right headlights are used for high beam as if you have manually pushed the stalk. The second and third clip show motorway driving and this is where High Beam Assist becomes more variable. At most times, only the left xenon goes to full whilst the right remains dipped. The beam is also shifted left depending on oncoming (and incoming) traffic.
Have a look and listen to what the Remus Quad Exhaust System for the 2013 F30 328i looks and sounds like.
Our latest spy photos of the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (F36) may not reveal anything new for the exterior [see past spy photos] , but this is the first look at the F36’s interior.
And it looks just like the F30 3 Series interior. But, what’s new is the presence of the iDrive Touch controller. This comes as no surprise as BMW has already announced details for a touch sensitive iDrive controller knob and it’s been previously seen on the 2014 BMW X5 (F15) prototype. The iDrive Touch system will debut with the next X5 in Fall 2013 as that comes before the 4 Series Gran Coupe’s expected debut in 2014.
Inside is some official information on the upcoming iDrive Touch system and a video demonstration.

On this episode of Head 2 Head, Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman stages a rematch between the all-new Cadillac ATS and the BMW 3-Series (335i). But this time, he trades the smaller engines and manual gear boxes for more power and automatic transmissions. And just to throw a wrench in things, he brought along the 2013 Mercedes-Benz C350.
Does the bigger engine and auto gear box of the ATS have what it takes to redeem itself against the titans of the segment?
