Watching BMW’s strip tease of its upcoming vehicles is always fun, especially when its the next 3-series (F30), and even more especially when the testing advances stages. In this case, the 2012 3-series has moved on to track testing on the Nurburgring! Which signals that we should hopefully see some of that body cladding start to come off.
We can also start to peek at the front bumper underneath the heavy camoflage bodysuit in one of the photos below.
Expect the next 3-series to be launched sometime in 2012.
According to Autocar, a BMW 3-series long wheelbase version is coming for the next generation BMW F30 3-series. Just as the F10 5-series long wheelbase version, the stretched 3-series main market will be China, where many Chinese prefer to be chauffered. It will compete with the newly revealed Audi A4L.
The long wheelbase 3-series will be built in conjunction with Brilliance, BMWs Chinese partner, at a new BMW factory in the Shengyang economic zone. However, the factory will not be completed until 2012, so the earliest the 3-series long wheelbase version will hit the market would be 2012/2013.
The new factory will have the capacity to build 100,000 units a year, and will … CONTINUED
In the BMW CEO Norbert Reithofers report (full report below) to shareholders yesterday, the CEO confirmed the F10 5-series Activehybrid will begin production in 2011 and that BMW also has plans for a 3-series hybrid (presumably with the next generation F30 / F32 3-series).
The F31 2012 3-series touring variant of the next generation 3-series has now been spotted for the first time! Although not much of the cars details are yet revealed, the overall shape and proportions are very attractive, much like those of the stunning F11 5-series touring.
Here is Autoexpress’ latest interpretation of what the 2012 F30 3-series will resemble. They believe that it will be a mix of influences from the CS Concept and 5-series. What do you think of this look?
The 2012 F31 3-series touring has been spotted! The picture comes from the Autocar magazine. The F31 BMW 3 series Touring is expected to follow after the Geneva 2012 launch of the F30 3-series sedan by possibly following the route taken with the 5er Touring (F11) And debuting in it’s home market, Germany @ Leipzig a month later. The 3-series sedan debuts in November 2011. The 3er Touring (F31) will also follow the same pattern as the (F11) and not be introduced in North America.
Here’s the latest F30 3-series sedan rendering by Auto Motor und Sport. Expected to debut in two years (2012), but buzz surrounding the BMW F30 is that it will be a revolutionary (rather than evolutionary) change from the E90.
Although not revealing much more that’s new, the 2012/2013 F30 3-series sedan test mules continue their testing around Munich, Germany and spy photographers continue their pursuit and recording. We hope to see the F30 lose some of its camoflage suit soon. Video courtesy of spyshots.nl.
French publication Automobile Magazine has just published these new renderings on what a possible next generation F30 3-Series could look like. While my first gut instinct when looking at these was that they took the concept 5-Series GT Clay Models very sleek front end design and applied it to the future 3-Series I have to say the result does work. The details are still a bit to concept-ish and aggressive for a production 3-series, but the general underlying theme does flow quite nice and could be a success if something like this was taken to production by BMW. But you be the judge!
