Jeremy Clarkson has published his list of the top 100 cars of 2013, and the BMW i3 has placed first, i8 second, and the 3 Series second, in their respective categories of Electric Cars/Hybrids, Supercars, and Family/Estate Cars.
The other three BMW models to crack the 100 list were the 7 Series (8th place in Executive category), the 5 Series (10th place in the Executive category) and the X3 (9th place in SUV category).
So far so good for the i3. BMW has over 8,000 orders and it’s not even in showrooms yet:
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), the world’s biggest maker of luxury vehicles, is considering a production increase for the i3 electric car after early demand for the model exceeded the automaker’s expectations.
Customers have reserved more than 8,000 of the compact city car, which will cost $41,350 in the U.S., even before the battery-powered model hits European showrooms next month, Chief Financial Officer Friedrich Eichiner said late yesterday.
“If demand holds, which is what it’s looking like, we will soon have to invest more,” he said at a press conference in Amsterdam. BMW expects to sell more than 10,000 of the i3 next year and “will adjust capacity … CONTINUED
BMW i continues to forge ahead with the introduction of customer-friendly electromobility services in the UK, forming a partnership with Schneider Electric. The partnership sees Schneider Electric become, not only the manufacturer of the BMW i Wallbox, but also the recommended installer.
This collaboration will allow Schneider Electric to work closely with the BMW i Sales Agents and customers, providing home surveys, supply and installation of the charging point, as well as offering maintenance and comprehensive support. The installation package will be provided by Schneider Electric but managed by BMW and can be customised to meet customers

The BMW i3 will be making its world public debut at the IAA Frankfurt auto show in September. It will go on sale in the US market in the second quarter of 2014 and starts with a base MSRP of $41,350, before any federal or state incentives, and before Destination & Handling fee.
