BMW UK has launched the first commercial for 1-series M coupe, which recently went on sale in England. The commercial features a valencia orange 1M coupe on some empty twisties in the countryside poised to swallow up some tarmac, followed by some serious driving. It’s rare to see tire smoke, much less drifting, in a BMW commercial, so the 1M is clearly being advertised by BMW as a model for serious driving enthusiasts.

Jalopnik prints their 1M first drive review, echoing what many auto publications have said before them – that the 1M is most surely an M car. Driver Mike Spinelli was impressed with the car’s great limits, handling, and stance. Perhaps the best compliments paid were the constant comparisons and references to big brother M3.
First video of a top speed run in a BMW 1M coupe result in a reading of 264km/h (164mph)! The video shows just how strong the 1M pulls in all ranges, even above 100mph. Here’s the first great look at an alpine white 1M coupe next to a mineral white M3 coupe. Both are beautiful in their own way, with the 1M coupe taking on a boxier, more overtly aggressive look, while the M3′s lines and bulges are sleeker and more discrete. Well, that didn’t take long. 1M deliveries just began, but this black 1M coupe has already seen a whole host of modifications, both performance and cosmetic. Current modifications include BMW Performance kidneys, spoiler, steering wheel and seats, combined with Plus street legal Schroth 4-point harnesses.
Future modifications to come include: shifter rebuild, steel brake lines, and Pirelli P Zeros tires.

The most renowned German sports car magazine Sport Auto has published their review. The biggest news first, the 1M did a 1:14.1 in Hockenheim. To add some perspective, the fastest time Sport Auto got for the M3 was 1:14.2 in an E92 M3 ZCP DCT.

Another 1M review is in from Germany. AMS got their hands on a 1-series M Coupé, and we’ve translated the essential details from their review. In short, AMS considers the 1M one of the best sports cars available but found some drawbacks in daily use and under less than ideal conditions. They clocked an amazing 4.7 seconds for 0-62mph which is on par with the E9x M3 they’ve tested previously. Equally impressive, 0-124mph only took 16.6 seconds while returing an average of 18.2 mpg. Autobild has just published a comparison test between the 1M and the Porsche Cayman R. We’re happy to share that the 1M won this comparison (besting the Cayman R by 1 point).
