BMW Motorsport returned to the DTM in 2012 after almost 20 years away, and the results in its comeback year exceeded all expectations. Canadian driver Bruno Spengler won the drivers’ title, BMW Team Schnitzer finished in top spot in the team standings, and BMW claimed the manufacturers’ honours.

The 40 Years of M event we attended this week at the Nurburgring presented not just one surprise (M6 Gran Coupe debut), but also the reveal of the limited edition BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition.
This limited edition E92 M3 coupe commemorates Bruno Spengler’s championship in the recently concluded DTM 2012 season. As you can see, the car mimics Bruno Spengler’s matte black BMW Bank M3 race car. It will be limited to 54 units.

Speed Channel recently aired an episode of its Battle of the Supercars which pit the E92 M3 against the Lexus IS-F. The cars competed in 4 different competitions, a 0-100-0 contest, 60-100 race, half-mile acceleration, road course, driven by Paul Tracy and Tanner Foust. Results inside.
CAR Magazine undertakes an examination of which BMW M3, all editions considered, is the greatest ever. The shortlist considered includes the E92 M3 GTS, E46 M3 CSL, or E30 M3 Sport Evo, each representing the highest performing and most focused editions of their generation. See verdict inside.
This is certainly becoming a predictable pattern and result. AMS Magazine stacks the deck against the M3 ZCP by pitting it against the RS5, C63 Performance Package, and the ALpina B3 S. The M3 ZCP is touted for its performance as well as its driving comfort. Full performance results inside.
The “Green Hell” M3 by IND recently competed in the Redline Time Attack at the Autobahn Country Club, its first taste of serious performance racing after being force fed and fitted with various other racing bits. According to accounts, it performed admirably.
Upon M3post member’s KonigsTiger’s request, Racing Dynamics/RDSport developed a specialized program called “Servizio Clienti Sportivo” (Racing Client Service). The goal was to create as much of a track performer as possible from the stock M3 by reducing weight and increasing power with an NA engine yet retaining some of the daily amenities. With the upcoming BMW M1 becoming available in Frozen Gray Metallic exterior, the interest in this special color has surged. However, most of the photos we have seen have only been indoor or studio photos, so here’s a glimpse into how this stunning color looks outside in daylight.
This is a dream gathering for most BMW enthusiasts — an M3 from each M3 generation (the E30, E36, E46, and E92). Jon Sadlier, an editor at Edmunds, has written this little piece on why he considers the BMW M3 a bargain even at $60k. His reasons seem to have struck a chord with actual M3 owners on M3post. Indeed, it appears that Mr. Sadlier “gets” why M3 owners are so passionate of their cars.
