As we reported earlier, the engine of the F10 M5 isn’t a direct swap from the X5 M and X6 M but a substantially revised engine. In an interview with M-Power.com, Jürgen Poggel, Head of Engine Development at BMW M GmbH, now shared more details on this engine. What most folks have not realized so far are the extensive modifications BMW has made to the F10 M5 engine. We point those out for you below, referencing BMW’s released info. Compared to the S85 engine of the E60 M5, BMW claims that “VALVETRONIC has also sharpened the responsiveness of this engine [S63Tü].

Here are the highlights of the new M5′s S63Tu engine and how it’s different from the S63 engine used for the X5 M and X6 M.

Two more innovations of the S63Tü:

- Innovative solenoid valve injectors in the new BMW M5 engine use multiple injections to achieve an extremely precise mixture preparation.

- VALVETRONIC
