Testing on the second generation BMW X5 M continues while the prototypes shed some camouflage. This is the first red F85 X5 M we’ve seen and as with earlier prototypes, it wears the signature M components – huge front air intakes, more aggressive sideskirts and rear diffuser, blue M brakes, and cross drilled rotors (the first for any X5 model). We also have a better look at the quad exhaust pipes which, unlike the current X5 M, feature a new angled design (same as the upcoming M3 and M4).
We now see double-slatted kidney grilles fitted to the X5 M prototype for first time. This has become another signature M styling bit for the latest M models, including the M5 LCI facelift, M6 and the … CONTINUED
Development of the F15 X5 M continues…
Like the standard F15 X5, the next X5 M should also weigh less than the current X5 M. Expect it to be powered by the S63Tu from the M5/M6 (current X5 M uses the S63 engine), but with a power hike. We should see the X5 M hit dealers by the end of next year – early 2015.

The newly available rear-wheel drive 2014 X5 sDrive35i will start at $53,725 and the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35i is priced at $56,025. The 2014 BMW X5 xDrive35d price is $57,525 and the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i will start at $69,125. All prices include $925 destination and handling.
Two F15 X5s were just spotted during transportation in a cargo plane and while their exteriors remain camouflaged (previously revealed exterior photos below), we get some nice clear looks at their interiors.
As seen in previous spy shots, the F15 X5′s features a multi-layered dashboard design look and is both more driver-centric and upright compared to the current X5′s dashboard.
You can see the black panel display gauges, large free-standing navigation/infotainment LCD screen and new iDrive Touch system.
The US will receive the following models in the first model year: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i. All of these models will begin production in August 2013, except the xDrive35d which begins production in December 2013. The European models are listed here. What’s revealed are the expected signature M components – huge front air intakes, aggressive sideskirts and rear diffuser, blue M brakes, and cross drilled rotors (the first for any X5 model). We also get a better look at the quad exhaust pipes which, unlike the current X5 M, feature a new angled design (like we’ve seen on the F82 M4 prototypes).

Have a look at the more exposed 2014 X5 (F15) prototype which has dropped some major camouflage to reveal much more of its styling and design.
FRONT FASCIA / LIGHTS
We can now clearly see the front bumper design, with its integrated air curtain vents. Also clearly visible now are the tail lights and headlight designs, which connect to the kidney grilles as we reported before. The grilles are larger, wider, and have a thicker surround than those on the current X5. It retains the 7 slat design.
The hoodline has been moved to above the kidney grilles, but conform to the grilles and headlight shapes, instead of the higher (and more unattractive) hoodlines seen on newer BMW models such as the 3, 5, and 7 Series.
