Congrats to our Canadian members as they are now the first North American market to get a crack at the BMW X1 SAV. BMW Canada previously confirmed that the X1 will go on sale in Canada this year, and in case you have not yet seen, the X1 configurator has now been online at BMW Canada’s website for a few weeks.

Currently, the only X1 model available in Canada is the xDrive28i, featuring BMW’s all new twinpower turbo 4-cylinder engine (N20), good for 241hp / 258lb-ft torque. Pricing for the X1 xDrive28i starts at $38,500.

No word yet on the timing of availability in the US. Why has North America received the X1 later than the European market? Apparently, due to the great demand in all markets in … CONTINUED

Following BMW’s announcement yesterday, here’s full information on the M-Sport Package for the BMW X1. As you can see from the pictures, most prominent feature is the M aerodynamics package including M door sills and High Gloss Shadow Line. The M-Sport Pack for the X1 features 17-inch double spoke M alloy wheels standard with 18-inch double spoke M alloy wheels (shown here) being available as option. Also included: Sports seats in cloth and alcantara (think E9x 3-series M-Sport), an brushed aluminum interior trim and an alcantare headliner.

According to C&D, BMW has confirmed that the X1′s release in the US market has been delayed until the Fall of this year due to unexpectedly high demand for the model in Europe. Evidently, the Leipzig, Germany, production plant in which the X1 is built (alongside the 1-series) can barely make enough of them for the European market, and to add the considerable demand of the U.S. market to the production fray is not possible at this point. However, the X1 will come to the Canadian market early this year as originally planned.

American fans of the BMW X1 SAV will soon get their turn as the X1 is expected to hit U.S. dealerships in late May to early June of 2011 according to our sources. The X1 has been on sale in Europe since Oct. 2009 and is produced at the BMW Leipzig plant. Its main rivals will be the upcoming Audi Q3 and Mercedes B-Class.

The X1 has been a sales success so far, recently overtaking the Audi Q5 as the top selling premium sports utility vehicle in Europe.

BMW’s X1 has been an undisputed hit in Europe so far. The X1 now tops the premium SUV class after overtaking the Audi Q5 as the top selling premium SUV for the first half of 2010 after selling 55,550 units through July. The X1 will arrive in US showrooms by Spring 2011. BMW sold 11,483 X1s in July 2010 alone.

The BMW X1 has been marketed as a lifestyle vehicle, perfect for those who lead both an active outdoor and social life. In the BMW CEO Norbert Reithofers report (full report below) to shareholders yesterday, the CEO happily reported that the BMW X1 has outsold expectations with 36,000 cars sold since its launch last Fall. The X1 is expected to be available in North America starting sometime next year (2011) and should be available in the xDrive28i gasoline model, powered by the 3.0L 6-cylinder motor making 231-hp and a 199 lb-ft of torque.
