This past Monday, Apple announced its new iOS7 operating system at its annual WWDC conference. As part of the presentation, Apple announced plans to integrate iOS services into cars. Apple is working with manufacturers on new infotainment systems that could integrate to iOS devices like the iPhone. For example, an iPhone could be plugged into a car and an optimized, redesigned version of iOS Maps will appear on the car’s built-in display instead of a proprietary GPS system found in many cars today.

Upcoming 2014 BMW models will be available with the new iDrive Touch system, which features a touch sensitive controller knob for a whole new way of input. Instead of having to scroll for letter input, users can now write letters on the surface of the iDrive knob.
This new written input method can be used anywhere where a speller wheel is needed: navigation, multimedia search, contact search, phone numbers, etc.
It also accepts gestures for such actions as zooming in and out on a map.
