The team at Fifth Gear reviews the 2012 BMW F20 1 Series Hatchback. See video inside.
The 2012 3 series sedan (F30) is slightly larger than the outgoing E90 3 series (3.66 in longer, 1.45-1.85 in wider), while at the same time being lighter. But just a few physical dimensions don’t tell the whole story or show exactly how the bodywork has changed.
This excellent F30 vs E90 animation shows precisely and visually how the exterior evolves in all aspects, as well as the interior layout.
Here are some even more looks at the F30 M-sport model, inside and out, including the best interior photos yet, courtesy of Autospies. There is also a walk around and interior video of the F30 M-sport, with commentary by a BMW representative.
Autospies shares their very comprehensive and excellent video review of the F30 328i, powered by the N20 4 cylinder 2.0L turbo engine. In their experience, they feel that the 3 series once again delivers a knockout punch to its competitors from Audi, MB, and Lexus.
Especially impressive in the video is a look at how quickly the new 8 speed automatic transmission shifts.
It’s teaser time again! Hot off the press here’s part 1 of “a new chapter: powered by BMW M”.
When you listen to the engine carefully you can hear it’s a diesel engine. At this point we can only speculate what this is about exactly, but if we were forced to do so we’d say it’s a promotion for the long-rumored M Performance Diesel models called X6 M50d ( and M550d for the F10) powered by a 3.0l inline 6 Diesel engine with no less than 3 … CONTINUED
The BMW X5 M was not built to be a drag racer (nor is any BMW for that matter), but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be an absolute brute on the quarter mile track, despite its hefty 5,368 pounds curb weight. Given its torque crazy bi-turbo motor, that’s no surprise.
The bi-turbo engine also reacts very well to software tunes and this video shows just how much tuning potential the motor has. RENNtech was able to run in the 11′s while testing out their … CONTINUED
As we reported last week, Sport Auto tested the new F10 M5 which lapped the Hockenheimring in 1:12.90. Complementing their test here is an video of Sport Auto doing a 0-300kph run as well as some nice drifts. Check it out inside.
Interview with the designer of the BMW i3, Richard Kim.
The i3 began life as the Megacity electric project car, but the concept evolved into a purely electric runabout that would be configurable, when it went on sale in 2013, with a gasoline-burning, 3-cylinder range extender.
Without an engine up front — the range extender is in the rear — the hood area could become smaller and the vehicle higher as a wide battery pack on the floor became the key element determining the vehicle’s shape. Computer-generated sketches … CONTINUED
Some M3POST member’s supercharged M3s have set the quarter mile trap speed record on street tires. The M3s were supercharged with ESS 535 (DCT) supercharger, ESS 625 (6spd) supercharger, and AA Stage 2 supercharger and DCT.
The runs were made at Atco Raceway in some cool temperatures (45 degrees F).
1SICKM managed a trap speed record of 125mph and ran times of 11.6 and 11.8. Akh23456′s M3 managed even faster 1/4 mile times in 11.2 – 11.3.

Remember the dealer PDI 1M coupe joyride fiasco experienced by one of our 1ADDICTS members?
News now comes that the Los Angeles Country district attorney’s office has filed misdemeanor charges against the two former Pacific BMW employees for their actions. This stems from a joyride that the two men took in the not-yet-delivered BMW 1 Series M coupe down the residential streets of Glendale, CA.
A video of the ride (some of which can be seen below) was then posted by the men on YouTube.

12.5 million – that’s all you need to know about the importance of the 3 series to BMW. Since the introduction of the first generation 3 series in 1982, BMW has sold 12.5 million units. That means every third BMW sold in 2010 was a 3 series. Unsurprisingly then, whenever a new 3 series launches, BMW knows they have to get it right. And we’re not talking about E89 Z4 right but about right in the sense of perfect.
