Like it or not (and we don’t), FWD BMWs are coming. The first of the front wheel powered BMW models to come to market will be the 1 Series GT, spied here undergoing Nurburgring testing.
It has been developed on BMW’s UKL platform, a FWD platform which will be shared between the new MINI Cooper to be revealed in a couple of months, and the upcoming FWD BMW lineup.
The final 1 Series GT design has recently been revealed in a set of patent design images.
How many FWD BMWs should we expect?
According to a report from late last year, up to 12 BMW and Mini cars were already approved for the UKL platform as of last year. These already-approved models will account for 40 percent of the … CONTINUED
And here is our last set of 4 Series photos from the BMW NA launch drive event for the 4 Series Coupe, together with a walkaround video feature. These are of an Estoril Blue 428i M Sport and a black 428i Sport Line (the only non M Sport model at the event).
The black 428i was neither Jet Black nor Black Sapphire Metallic, but somewhat resembled Citrin Black Individual paint, with an orange flake. The interior was optioned with leatherette (“SensaTec”) seats with red highlights and pearl glass chrome trim finishers.
If you didn’t catch them earlier, here were our other photo sets:

A disgruntled BMW M6 owner, Hadi Pourmohseni, staged a demonstration against his dealership and BMW in front of the Frankfurt IAA show by doing no other than destroying his M6 for which he could not get a fix.
Hadi said along with a letter to BMW, he brought the car to Frankfurt during the largest European auto show of the year so that he and co-batter Thomas Brunner could publicly unleash some pent-up frustration, noting that a lawsuit over the car would have taken up to seven years. (That’s Pourmohseni in the suit and axe below.)
Watch the painful video inside.
BMW head of design Adrian van Hooydonk and the i8 project manager Henrik Wenders talk about the BMW i cars from Frankfurt IAA 2013.
Video shot and produced by Jim Perry.
Some clips of the BMW i8 under full throttle.
We have updated our photo gallery of the BMW i3 electric car, and added a video showing an on-board lap in the i3 as it goes around the track that’s been erected at the BMW Display at the Frankfurt IAA 2013.
Although the focus of the BMW NA Launch Event we attended was the 4 Series Coupe and new X5, there were also a few M5 and M6 equipped with Competition Package for us to test out. And flog it we did.
The M5/M6 Competition Package both include a Competition Exhaust System.
Keep in mind that the Competition Package Exhaust is not the same system as the titanium M Performance Exhaust which will be coming for the M5 and M6 (see our preview clips). The Competition Exhaust is positioned between the stock exhaust and the M Performance Exhaust.
The Competition Package Exhaust accomplishes its sportier and louder sound (compared to factory) by having its baffles pulled from the muffler. There are no power gains nor flow changes, but … CONTINUED
With the BMW i Remote App for iOS and Android, you can receive detailed information about the current status of the BMW i3 at any time.
