In the BMW CEO Norbert Reithofers report (full report below) to shareholders yesterday, the CEO happily reported that the BMW X1 has outsold expectations with 36,000 cars sold since its launch last Fall. The X1 is expected to be available in North America starting sometime next year (2011) and should be available in the xDrive28i gasoline model, powered by the 3.0L 6-cylinder motor making 231-hp and a 199 lb-ft of torque.

BMW and the ski company K2 sponsored a group of professional skiers on a trip throughout the ski slopes of Europe. The skiers traveled in X1s to the locations and even utilized the X1s AWD technology during some of their stunts. Check it out.

The BMW X1 has made the 2010 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) Award finalist list and the BMW Z4 has made the 2010 Performance Car of the Year (PCOTY) Award finalist list. 31 cars were originally nominated for the WCOTY award and 15 cars for the PCOTY award. The winner of each category will be announced April 1st at the New York International Auto Show.
The "World and Performance Car of the Year Awards" is now in its seventh year and the voting is done by a group of automotive journalists from around the world. 59 judges will pick this years winners.

BMW’s sport utility and crossover vehicles had a most impressive showing in the Off-Roader of the Year awards. The BMW X5 was voted “Off-Roader of the Year” in the “Luxury SUV” category, and the BMW X1 and BMW X6 came first and second in the “Crossover” category. Even the outgoing BMW X3 took second place in the “SUV” category. The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 took the Eco Award for its innovative powertrain.
