BMW of North America today launched the ‘X1 Restore the Outdoors’ social media program in Seattle, WA which will run through September 10 in New York City. X1 Restore the Outdoors is a social good program that gives back to the outdoor places we love including parks, beaches, forests and recreational locations across the country.
The X1 will travel through the United States for two and half weeks, stopping at 12 predetermined locations. Drivers will take an Instagram photo at each stop and share it at the www.RestoretheOutdoors.com Facebook page. For every “Like” the photo receives, BMW will donate one dollar back to that location – up to $10,000 for each location. You give a like. BMW donates a buck.

Check out one of these deliveries, to XBIMMERS member Paul, of his 2013 X1 xDrive28i in Midnight Blue Metallic. Congrats to all owners to come!

BMW has released a set of new ads highlighting some of the technologies available in its lineup. They deliver the message with some humor, reminding us of the 6 ad spots which debuted during the last Super Bowl.

Anyone wanting a RWD X1 should look into buying a current generation X1, if a new report coming out of Autocar is true.
It’s being reported that the current model’s RWD / AWD platform (adopted from the E9X 3 series) will be replaced by the FWD / AWD UKL platform when the next gen BMW X1 hits the market around 2015. “UKL” is German for ‘Unter Klasse’ or ‘entry level.’
The FWD UKL platform is the same one upon which the initial FWD BMW models and the next MINI will be built on. The initial lineup of FWD BMW cars will include Gran Turismo, City Compact, and Family Activity Sports Tourer variants. See a summary of the next generation RWD / FWD 1 Series and 2 Series models.
