Even though the M versions of the X5 and X6 are the big news right now, BMW continues to make improvements on the non-M X5 and is set to release a minor facelift for the car at the same time. The new work on the front will bring the car more inline with the X6 in terms of front end styling.

One of our members Daniel N recently caught this BMW X5 with a large hood mount testing in Michigan. This car has been speculated by most everyone as being a hybrid version of the X5 with technical monitoring equipment resting under the large hood mount. Most notable about these pictures is that the car is cruising around Michigan so it seems we are in store for some hybrid BMWs on US shores in the near future

BMWs high-performance X5 mule has hit the Ring again, this time
showing some interesting changes compared to earlier prototypes.
While prior prototypes always had a more aggressive front bumper, the
headlight design remained pure X5. On this newest prototype, the
headlights appear to have been switched out with X6 headlights. If
there are any changes to the X5s deeper front bumper, we cant
discern them through the camouflage.

BMW officially took the wraps off its first US market diesels since the mid-1980s today at the Detroit Auto Show. The 335d and exceedingly awkwardly named X5 xDrive35d are getting BMWs dual turbocharged 3.0L inline six diesel starting this fall.
