With all the changes to the BMW X lineup in the last 6-12 months it seems as tho the current X5 has been left behind a little bit. Not that we are all for such a rapid turnover in design tweaks, nevertheless it seems as tho every X car is either being completly redone or refreshed. So it does make sense that the bread and butter X5 not be treated as a second class citizen and get some updates as well. These photos fairly clearly show that the car will recieve the X6 face but with some tweaks to the bumper that makes it a bit more fitting to the X5 chassis.

One of our members Daniel N recently caught this BMW X5 with a large hood mount testing in Michigan. This car has been speculated by most everyone as being a hybrid version of the X5 with technical monitoring equipment resting under the large hood mount. Most notable about these pictures is that the car is cruising around Michigan so it seems we are in store for some hybrid BMWs on US shores in the near future
Heres what Daniel mentioned about the car:
Quote:
Im from Los Angeles and I had to fly out to Michigan just for the day to check out a property 3 weeks ago. I stopped at the Oakland Mall in Detroit and as I was leaving … CONTINUED
With BMWs X6 Active Hybrid now well advanced in its development
process, the appearance of this hybrid X5 is not entirely unexpected.
Spinning off the hybrid technology on the X5s largely related
platform seems a no-brainer in this increasingly fuel-conscious
environment.
If the huge hood bulge wasnt enough of a giveaway that a new hybrid
powertrain resides within the X5, the neon green warning sticker
affixed to the X5s backlight seemed to announce the state of affairs
plainly enough. It reads: “Caution: Hybrid-Prototype (High Voltage
On Board).”
The real question regarding this X5 Hybrid is whether its running a
gasoline or diesel engine. BMW showed the X5 Efficient Dynamics
Active Hybrid concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show–which utilized
Munichs 2.0-liter, twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine in
combination with a 20 horsepower electric motor. This was a definite
break from the strategy revealed with the petrol-based … CONTINUED

BMWs high-performance X5 mule has hit the Ring again, this time
showing some interesting changes compared to earlier prototypes.
While prior prototypes always had a more aggressive front bumper, the
headlight design remained pure X5. On this newest prototype, the
headlights appear to have been switched out with X6 headlights. If
there are any changes to the X5s deeper front bumper, we cant
discern them through the camouflage.
This latest prototype also features a new rear treatment. Earlier
prototypes used the standard X5 rear valance, mocked-up to accommodate
its new M-style quad exhaust set-up. The X5 shot yesterday, however,
gets a new, larger rear … CONTINUED
BMW officially took the wraps off its first US market diesels since the mid-1980s today at the Detroit Auto Show. The 335d and exceedingly awkwardly named X5 xDrive35d are getting BMWs dual turbocharged 3.0L inline six diesel starting this fall. The 265-hp, 425-lb.ft. torque monster will make these vehicles among the most fuel-efficient and best performing vehicles in their class. They will also be among the cleanest being 50 state legal with particulate filters and a urea injection system that BMW is calling BluePerformance. So far no word on pricing, but based on the 535d that Autoblog.com drove recently, this should be a killer combination at any price.
