Mercedes pulling the wraps off their new SLK (R172) is reason enough for another photo comparison. This one is particularly interesting as BMW’s move to build the current Z4 (E89) with a folding steel roof makes it all the more of a natural rival to the SLK. Mercedes pretty much started the segment of hardtop roadsters by launching the first generation SLK in 1996.
The new SLK appears to incorporate design cues from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG such as the muscular front fascia. Mercedes also advanced their 3.5L V6 engine which now develops 302hp in the SLK 350 and thus is on par with the Z4 35i (300hp).
If that’s too much for your liking, there’s also an SLK 250 powered by a turbo 4 developing 201hp. No … CONTINUED
EVO reviews the AC Schnitzer ACS4 Turbo S, calling the upgraded 375bhp Z4 the best-handling BMW Z4 yet, with styling tweaks that bring attitude to match its performance. Read on for their review.
Automobile has just tweeted some interesting news on the base Z4 which corroborates a recent report from a ZPOST member. If these reports are correct, the base BMW Z4 will soon be powered by two turbo 4-cylinder variants (sDrive20i and 28i) instead of the current naturally aspirated inline 6-cylinder. This would not come as a huge surprise as recent rhetoric from BMW has pointed to the likely use of turbo 4-cylinder engines in future BMW base models (i.e. next generation F30 3-series), especially with improvements in forced induction technology and the overall goal of increasing efficiency throughout its entire fleet.
The exact tweet states “BMW new 4-cyl coming this year in Z4 roadster. Replaces nat asp 6, so at least 200 hp” but according to the info … CONTINUED

We love mad scientist projects where huge BMW motors are stuffed into smaller models which it was never intended to power. A german E85 Z4 M roadster owner has shoehorned the V10 from the M5/M6 and the resulting aural experience isn’t too shabby. Videos inside.
The E86 Z4 M Coupe is still one of our favorite late model BMWs, even in stock form. ARKYM has taken it to even higher levels of gnarliness with its full carbon fiber kit, consisting of a carbon fiber front lip spoiler, rear diffuser, and aerowing.
ZPOST member impreza7854′s Alpine White E89 Z4 shows that Hamann may still have some magic in its designing pen at times. Featuring Hamann’s full E89 Z4 body kit, Eisenmann quad exhausts, Brembo BBK and Volk Racing wheels, this Z4 is a sight to behold.
According to insider Scott26, an M version of the current second generation Z4 is inevitable. By late 2012 there will be no compact-medium car for the M division as the 1M and current M3 will both have stopped production and new versions not yet here. That is why the Z4M may be back on the drawing board.
AC Schnitzer has released videos of its various exhaust systems for the F10 550i, Z4 sDrive35is, X6M, 135i, 335i, M3, including comparisons to the BMW factory exhaust.
