In its latest customer survey – the Automotive Performance and Layout Study (APEAL) – assessing satisfaction levels among North American new car buyers, the BMW 5 Series range, BMW X3, BMW Z4 and MINI Countryman emerged as winners of their respective vehicle segments. In addition, four more models from the BMW Group finished in the top three of their category. This tally means the BMW Group boasts the highest number of segment winners of all manufacturers in the latest APEAL survey.

The BMW Z4 will line up from autumn 2011 with the promise of further advances in driving pleasure and efficiency. Two newly developed four-cylinder petrol engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology will be available for the Roadster. The 2.0-litre units for the BMW Z4 sDrive20i and BMW Z4 sDrive28i develop 135 kW/184 hp and 180 kW/245 hp respectively, and can team up – as an option – with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All variants of the BMW Z4 will now be fitted as standard with Servotronic speed-sensitive power steering, and the BMW Z4 sDrive35i will also feature 18-inch light-alloy wheels in multispoke design.

With the Z2/Z1′s move to the FWD UKL platform, the return of the BMW Z3 (RWD) is currently being considered. The new Z3 would come in traditional soft-top and coupe versions and would be based on the F20 1-series generation’s modular platform.
But it doesn’t end there for BMW’s roadster lineup changes. The Z4 would be renamed the Z5 which would allow it to grow in size and for the smaller Z3 to slot in under it in the roadster lineup. The Z5 would utilize the F30 3-series generation platform.

In case you missed it, the BMW Performance Parts Manager recent revealed that the BMW Performance Power Kit will soon be coming in two stages, for both the N54 and N55 motors. Stage 1 PPK will be software upgrade only and Stage 2 PPK will be software and hardware upgrades.
The BMW Z4 GT3 has been modified/upgraded for the 2011 GT3 race season, fine-tuning its aerodynamics for better performance and BMW’s ECU408 engine management controller, with the Power400 electronic control unit is responsible for controlling all the actuators. Gearshifts are now initiated using two paddles.

All auto manufacturer tries to keep new models they’re working on a secret. Yet, there are cars virtually everyone knows about based on speculation or inside information. One of these cars is the BMW Z2 roadster. The Z4 has long abandoned the niche the BMW Z3 was once designed for. So it’s only reasonable that BMW is looking to re-enter that niche again — a small and pure roadster, affordable, light, fun. We’ve reported earlier about BMW working on a Z2 offering such a package.
