It has a layer in the middle to make the cabin quieter. My understanding is that it works better with high frequencies (i.e., wind noise) and also that the front windshield has this acoustic feature standard so the $150 option simply extends that to the passenger windows. I read some good things about it in an X3 thread so I just added it to my week 43 build today.
