This preproduction BMW i8 was just spotted crashed on the A92 in Germany. Driving the BMW hybrid halo sports car was a 30 year old BMW test driver and excessive speed was cited by the police as a factor in the accident. The car was traveling “a little bit too fast,” Police Chief Commissioner Nicholas Bishop suspects.
The i8 first crashed into the median barrier, and was then flung across the roadway, coming to a stop in the right lane. Fortunately, the test driver was … CONTINUED
I represented BIMMERPOST at the press launch of the BMW M235i at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Here are some images I took of the M235i Racing and M235i Performance Parts cars at the launch.
I had a chance to inspect the body parts up close and I would say the quality is excellent. All of the body fitments had tight, consistent gaps, and the look was aggressive and polished. [M Performance Parts details]

A new 2002? Behind the wheel of the M235i
By Jens Meiners, BIMMERPOST Contributor
If there is a single car that has put BMW on the map with enthusiasts in the USA, it is the 2002. Derived from the “New Class” mid-size sedan, it became the quintessential compact sports sedan. In 1975, it was replaced by the 3-series – a worthy successor initially, but a car that has become remarkably large over the years. In fact, the current 3-series is almost as long and tall as … CONTINUED
Courtesy of the Build Your Own feature on BMW Belgium’s website, we can show you the first (CGI) images of the standard 18″ wheels style 513M for the F80 M3 and F82 M4.
Tire dimensions are 255/40 ZR18 at the front and 275/40 ZR18 at the rear.
An interesting note is that the 18-inch wheels won’t clear the optional M carbon ceramic brakes, which will require the optional 19-inch style 437M wheels.
For comparison sakes, we have also included CGIs of these 19-inch style 437M wheels, both … CONTINUED

Overheard at the Detroit Auto Show by Road & Track’s Jason Camissa:
“M3/M4: Sloppy drivers need not apply
‘The M3/M4 won’t tolerate sloppy throttle inputs. It’s without a doubt the highest-performance road car M has built, but it also requires a LOT of talent to drive … at least BMW has a network of driver’s schools to help there, starting with the teen driving program up through the BMW CCA race schools.’”
- A BMW employee who’s driven the new M3
As we knew, there are multiple F80 M3 and F82 M4 cars at the Detroit auto show. One of our readers recently discovered the ‘spares’ parked in the garage underneath the Cobo Center (where the show is being held).
As luck would have it, he was driving his Le Mans Blue E92 M3 Coupe, which of course called for a photo with the new M3/M4.
