Last year, BMW first introduced the world to the BMW Concept X5 eDrive and now the “concept” vehicle is visiting the New York Autoshow. This is by far one of the more interesting prospects for BMW in the realm of electrified vehicles, especially from the POV of people who can’t yet make the full leap to the BMWi vehicles.

The X5 is powered by a combination of a BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder combustion engine and a 95-horsepower electric motor. This results in an average MPG of 62 and CO2 emissions of less then 90 grams per kilometer. The BMW Concept X5 eDrive obtains its electrical energy from a (lithium-ion) high-voltage battery, which is accommodated under the flat luggage compartment floor.

The project by car designer David Obendorfer is a modern interpretation of the 1968 BMW E9 series designed by Giovanni Michelotti. It focuses on two models: Michelotti’s E9 and its predecessor, the 1965 BMW 2000 CS (E120 series). The BMW CS vintage concept is based on the 6 series platform; the style, despite numerous citations from the past, is substantially contemporaneous with updated proportions and with modern details, many of which are influenced by nautical styling solutions.

One car that was a big surprise to me was the BMW X Coupé (2001). I had seen the BMW Concept Study CS1 (2002) before at BMW Classic, but the X Coupe I found really interesting.

I spoke with one of the Museum guides who told me something interesting about the Gina concept car. That car used to be on … CONTINUED

BMW is using the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) to present the logical next step towards landmark efficiency in the SAV segment. As you’ve seen, we spent the latter half of last week at the Pebble Beach Automotive Week in Monterey, California, which is an annual week-long banquet of events for automobile enthusiasts and connoisseurs who converge on the Monterey area. While the collection of automotive hardware (everything from some of the most expensive classics to the latest model exotics) spotted around the Monterey peninsula was the largest and most impressive gathering we’ve ever witnessed, the highlight of the trip for us was having the first look at the BMW M4 Coupe Concept, which BMW unveiled at several events throughout the weekend. The following is a brief timeline, our personal reaction to the M4 Concept and some interesting notes on the M3/M4.
