LOCOG & BMW GROUP UNVEIL LONDON 2012 FLEET
London, 26 April 2012: LOCOG and BMW, Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, today revealed full details of the London 2012 fleet. Set to play an essential role in delivering a successful Games, LOCOG’s deployment plans for the low-emission, diesel, hybrid and electric cars, motorcycles and bicycles were unveiled for the first time.
Whether it be pulling boats out of the water at Weymouth, providing a mobile camera platform for the marathon, towing a horse ambulance across Greenwich Park or carrying medal winners around the Olympic Park to media interviews, the BMW and MINI fleet will perform an extremely wide range of duties during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

BMW Group, the Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, has now delivered the first 40 vehicles that will be used for this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
The newly-liveried vehicles will form part of the full fleet which will be used by LOCOG to help drive the Games. The fleet consists of electric, diesel, and hybrid cars, as well as a range of motorcycles and bicycles, and benefits from BMW’s sector-leading EfficientDynamics technologies meaning that it will achieve LOCOG’s strict 120g CO₂/ km emissions target.

The BMW Group achieved sales volume, revenues and earnings records in 2011. Compared to the previous year, Group revenues increased by 13.8% to € 68,821 million (2010: € 60,477 million). In earnings terms, profit before tax (EBT) rose by 52.1% to € 7,383 million (2010: € 4,853 million), profit before financial result (EBIT) by 56.9% to € 8,018 million (2010: € 5,111 million) and Group net profit by 51.3% to € 4,907 million (2010: € 3,243 million). The total number of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand cars delivered to customers increased by 14.2% to a new record figure of 1,668,982 units (2010: 1,461,166 units).

With 127,634 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles delivered worldwide (+14.2% / prev. yr. 111,724), the BMW Group achieved its best-ever February sales result. BMW of North America, LLC today announced its annual Center of Excellence honors, awarded to the top performing dealerships in the U.S. Thirty-one of the 339 BMW dealers nationwide achieved “2012 Center of Excellence” status based on their 2011 performance in customer satisfaction, outstanding brand representation, operational excellence and profitability.

The latest news in Saab’s bankruptcy involves BMW. Saabs United has reported that 6-7 companies have bid to purchase Saab, which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings. According to the report, one European company “is German and located in Munich,” which no doubt means BMW. Autobild suggests that there are even more interest parties (up to 14), including Chinese and Indian companies.
Saab won’t necessarily be sold to the highest bidder however, but to the company offering the best proposal (with respect to benefit for the company, employees, creditors, etc.)
What could BMW possibly want Saab for? As it’s already known that smaller FWD BMW models are coming, perhaps this is BMW’s play to build larger FWD cars without using the BMW badge.
The BMW Group has opened the world’s largest showroom for BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and BMW motorcycles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Motors, the BMW Group’s long-standing importer for the region, has invested around AED 300 million (approx. 62 million euros) in the new 35,000-square-metre showroom over its three-year construction.
