BMW along with Audi and Mercedes have experienced large sales increases in South Korea in the first quarter, each by at least 25% – faster growth than even in China.
Foreign brands have managed to secure 41% of Korea’s market for premium vehicles (up from 28% two years ago). The BMW Group continued to perform well in the first quarter of 2013. Group revenues totalled € 17,546 million (2012: € 18,293 million; -4.1%). According to Leftlanenews, a leaked document reveals that the official English name of this new joint brand is called “Zinoro” (which, not surprisingly, sounds like an English variation on “Zhi Nuo” (the Chinese name of the new brand)). The Zinoro models are expected to be green entry-level vehicles which will slot in under the MINI brand.
The BMW Group sold more vehicles in March than in any other month in its history. The company sold a total of 191,269 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce vehicles in the past month, exceeding the previous all-time high in March last year (185,741 units/+3.0%). The company also achieved a new high for the first three months: Retail volumes for the year to the end of March increased by 5.3% to 448,200 units (prev. yr. 425,543 units).
