Will larger oil filter help keep temps down?
Has anyone considered using a larger oil filter to increase the total volume of oil to help keep temps down? I'm looking for low cost suggestions.

The oil filter housing is fixed size, unlike other cars where you replace the tin can with the filter in it. Unless you're really driving it hard, like on a road course, or lives in area with constant triple digit weather, oil temp isn't really an issue.
I think larger oil cooler or dual oil coolers are the only viable options for the N54 at the moment.. |

That's my dilemma. I track my car in Texas. Double whammy. For the occassional track event I don't want to invest in a larger or another oil cooler. I guess I'll just have to slow down when it's really hot.
At what max engine temp should I back off? |

The manual said operation temp is around 100f to 300f, but I'd start freaking out if my oil temp gauge needle get pass the 275f point. In addition to slow down when it gets too hot (i.e.
>275F), I'll do an oil change right after the track day if you hit that kind of temps... |

I sometimes keep the mph upwards of 150 for a while when I'm cruising with those damn Audi wagons on the autobahn. The temps rise quickly. And Germany stays pretty cool (70f average). I know I won't be doing this when I get stateside but I can't help but wonder if the Audis and everything else that can sustain those speeds get temps like that.
