N20 ER Downpipe installed (Jb4 too)

Installed the downpipe last night on my 2014 328i xDrive Msport. A million times easier than my E61 N54. Wow. Only took me about an hour and a half. JB4 set to map 2, feels pretty good. It's not a FBO N54 like I had, but still fun, and it gets 32mpg. Now I just need to find a tech at my local BMW dealer that is mod friendly.

I currently have an Active Autowerke axle back exhaust installed, but it will be coming off and put up for sale. It is just too aggressive sounding for a daily driver. Putting the stock exhaust back on today.

I did get a CEL for catless downpipe detected, even with my JB4 on map 2 after a couple of drives. Probably 70 miles. Cleared it. Let's see if it comes back.

CEL for the downpipe keeps coming back. Very frustrated. Had I known this would be an issue, I would not have installed it. My N54 had zero issues with this. Hell, had I known this would be an issue, I probably wouldn't have bought a car with the N20. I just wanted to do a JB4 and a downpipe and forget about. Get some extra HP for my daily driver and forget about it.......

This has been covered about 100 times in this sub; Burger is working on becoming C.A.R.B compliant and they have removed the ability to auto-delete the CEL for a catless downpipe. You could try to buy a used JB4 off of the member's classifieds section that has the older firmware that supported that option.....is it really that big of a deal though? Others have mentioned the use of an o2 sensor spacer to stop the CEL from popping up

Also, you're still getting 32mpg with the downpipe and on map2? Thats great man. I struggle to get 22mpg lol

You're right, it has been covered 100 times, but I had to search specifically for it on Google to find the correct information. Not something that was made totally evident before I spent the cash on the JB4 and the connect kit. Coming from the N54 platform, which had it built in, I just assumed. Which was my mistake. I will more than likely just put the car back to stock unless I Can find a simple solution......

Yes, it is a big deal to me. After spending over $1000 on mods, driving around with a CEL light is not acceptable.....

Can anyone confirm that an O2 spacer will avoid a CEL with catless downpipe?

....and if you only need a spacer for the downstream o2 sensor, or both?

I ordered this from amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

DO NOT put one on the first sensor after the turbo. That one is what the ECU uses for your fueling.

The 90 degree fitting would not go on with the DP already in the car. If I were to remove the DP to install it, I think it would work. I just installed one of the smaller spacers on the rear O2. I have only driven about 20 miles with it installed, but the CEL light DID NOT come on, and it usually does.

I would have to remove the DP to install the 90 degree spacer. At this point, I am just going to put the stock Cat back in. Tired of messing with it.

I have heard you must run an O2 spacer or mini-cat to keep the CEL off, you also need the mini cat to pass emissions otherwise you have to swap downpipes anyways just to do emissions.

The spacers I purchased are just an open threaded tube, nothing to drill out.

No emissions in Ohio.

Might as well just use the stock pipe if you have to run a mini cat.

Beginning to seem more pointless and more trouble than it is worth.

Screw it, stock cat going back in.....
