Hey guys, I hit the dyno in my FBO 435i with a custom E-30 tune by Cary Jordan!

Logs from the runs?

I think those numbers are about the same as the BM3 stage 2+ OTS ethanol map.

The lowest I've seen is 430rwhp on the OTS stage 2+ maps.

Yeah, pretty close. The OTS E-30 ranges from 390-415hp from the dyno sheets i've seen. I was happy with 425hp with my E-30 mix containing crap Cali 91 gas.

uhm, anyone mention anything to you about your fuel pressure dipping to half of what it should be? do you feel a stutter around 5000 to 6000 rpm? is your fuel pump upgraded?

Yeah, I spoke to Cary Jordan about this. He stated that we have reached the limits as far as fueling goes on the stock HPFP. No stuttering whatsoever during wot pulls.

my stock pump was doing the same thing and i have since upgraded to a dorch unit. halim @bm3 said the fuel pump was possibly on the way out and even tried fixing it via a couple of custom tunes. and ive been told me that if the pressure dips below a certain level id start getting lean conditions and misfires. so, this is certainly something for you to keep an eye out for.

Good numbers, higher than BM3 E30 OTS, but lower than the full blown E30+ tune. Of course you don't have a HPFP yet, so it's not apples to apples. Thanks for sharing.

The tune is too aggressive for your hardware and fueling in my opinion. It probably feels fast and makes good power but it's typical of cary jordan tunes where its tuned up to 11/10 when realistically you want a tune thats 9/10. But I supposed that's somewhat down to personal preference...

The boost is too high for your stock HPFP with the ethanol content you are running and the timing targets are too aggressive for your ethanol content so you are basically stuck not being able to add any more ethanol. The timing is decent in the first log but in the 2nd log you are pulling what looks like 4+ degrees, especially up top. Yes i know the 91 here sucks, i am in the same boat.

Just my 2c.

Yeah, definitely keeping an eye out. HPFP is next on the list. How do you like the Dorch? Running ethanol?

Its running great for me! I dont have a comparison to other models but inchose dorch because its truly plug and play. Iirc another brand needed some wire splicing and some fuel lines were longer than needed ( i dunno if thats changed now or not) and wasnt a clean install. Im running e40 on the stage 2+ e30 map and the pump is handling it like a champ

Be careful if you are in California because you wont be able to pass SMOG with a pump that requires you to have non OEM software. That's part of the reason i havent upgraded the HPFP.

Yeah, I like the idea of plug and play as well. It sounds like you are running the Dorch Stage 1, yeah?

Typical Cary. Completely stupid to run the HPFP down to 1400-psi, all while the timing is all over the place.

Just wait until you have IATs in the 60s. Your HPFP will completely drop out and you'll get limp mode if you stay in gas.

Good luck.

Yup. Same thing i said above. Its the tuning to 11/10 strategy because it "feels good" to the customer.

I went with Fabian over at PureBoost for my custom PS2 E30 tune and it was a great experience.

The OTS maps are the way they are so that they leave an adequate margin of safety and account for variability between cars, atmospheric conditions, etc. The BM3 OTS maps in particular are very near hardware/fuel/etc limits, so little room is left for more power on a custom tune without exceeding hardware limits (as you have seen in your logs), unless you have a specific/unique hardware configuration, fueling (i.e. meth), etc, the OTS map is not able to take advantage of.

What that means for you in running the stage 2 map with stock HPFP or stage 2+ if you upgrade the HPFP. Or continue to run your custom tune and worry about HPFP crashes if its cold outside or you slightly overshoot ethanol content, or bad timing if you reduce ethanol content to keep HPFP in check. But it's your car, so if you are happy with running the tune the way it is, then go for it.
