Calibrating your Torque Wrench DIY
Hello,
If you think your torque wrench is out of tune or would like to check it... Here's how. Procedure is good for all, but adjustment is slightly different depending on the different models and brand... |

Thank you for sharing that DIY calibration video. I have a few torque wrenches (bought new) that have not been calibrated, but then again they aren't used all that often. They are never dropped, , banged, or loaned out as well!

Glad it help.
Normally, when new, they should be calibrated. Sometimes, they come with a calibration certificate. In which there is 2 or more point of calibration with the error or offset (accuracy). |

I agree about calibrating. I have a couple I need to check. I prefer this guy's method using an inexpensive luggage scale which I stumbled across two days ago. I think it will be more accurate. I just ordered a scale from Amazon.

Hint .... make sure when you store your Torque Wrench you turn down the setting to 0. This will help preserve it's life and keep it calibrated.

Here's something I learned while researching for a new torque wrench. Click-type torque wrenches are inaccurate at the extremes, particularly at the low end, on the order of 20% of the range. So for example, if the range is 25-250ft/lb, take 20% of the difference (225). Your wrench is accurate starting at 45 ft/lb. This is why you need 2 torque wrenches, one for light stuff and one for higher torque values.
